The FAC(A) mission and the IDM

@Cik:
both 1688 laser code, at about 15nm slant we would get DETECT and TRACK essentially instantly within one screen (hard exactly to measure how far the TGP was away from the target… our chief objective was to find out how permissive the LST “window” is)
however if we moved the TGP off the target by even a nautical or two it would never detect (or, well, we gave it a minute or so)
we tried different aspects, even at straight nose-on (with TGP offset a little) no dice. i’m not sure if the TGP actually does a scan or if it just checks within the screen, but either way it didn’t seem that useful. for handing off to specific points in a column or a specific building in a city it’d work fine, but if you’re sweeping the countryside for moving columns i’d use a steerpoint instead.
It has to be within the 3.4x3.4 FOV or whatever it is. And the TGP is only really good within about 15 miles which is why the the AGTR is 15-20 miles

you’re supposed to have different laser code and set them accordingly in the DED laser page
having both the same laser code will be confusing and will create bomb guiding issues if you lase both at the same timeyou need to change laser codes in the weapon ui before the flight and make sure the ded laser page is set correctly
your own code in the laser and the wingman in the TGP line(from memory) so check the manual which clearly explains it -
I would just like to add that simulating FAC(A) is a great advanced task for multiplayer play.
The purpose of a FAC doesn’t revolve around the technological challenges of simply designating a target for someone else.
The key is the word “close” in close air support. The FAC ensures the integration of and the safety of friendly joint forces that are in close proximity to the enemy targets – both ground and air assets.
There are all kinds of chaotic and dangerous activities going on short of the FSCL. You want to minimize fratricide and make sure the targets you hit are in keeping with the ground force commander’s current needs. Control measures and the FAC are used ensure proper integration.
In short, the FAC makes sure both air and ground assets are dancing to the same sheet of music.
Also, the 9-line is just the start of communication between the FAC and CAS packages that arrive on station. Essentially they are the details that explain the current situation and begin the process of the FAC controlling each attack. It’s the FAC’s job to maneuver and clear the fires of the CAS a/c – given a menu of three specific types of control and methods of attack.
I’ll not go into more detail, but I encourage you to learn more and then try it out.
p.s. all the posts here about simply passing off targets to other aircraft, etc. That’s called terminal guidance operations (TGO). Not exactly the same thing as a FAC–lacks the FAC’s authorities and control.

@Cik:
if i am XMT 30 and OWN 41 and i am hosting a CONT round will it screw everything up if i change it?
i guess the question is, is XMT purely to determine who receives data, or does it key into how the core CONT round propagates?
No, that editable XMIT number is only for AG handoffs as it’s on the AG DL DED page.
