      Hello,

I posted a topic at the ‘HARDWARE’ section. But maybe it has a better place in here, excuse me for double posting.

      https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?28346-BMS-setup-MFD-ICP-usb-Some-help-with-the-key-editor-please

In short. I want to make a USB ICP from an external numpad and I’m having trouble assigning the right keys for it. See pics.

Can somebody help me with the Key File editor? Despite reading a big portion of the manual, watching youtube vids I can’t make it work.

I have Excel Starter, however, I edit the files on a computer which has an activated full version (including macros). But when I paste the keyfile in BMS, select it in game, nothings works, no cougar, no key bindings.

I mean, the Excel editor does only exist to make Key files, right? De sim itself doesn’t use it right? The sim uses the Keyfiles generated by the key file editor, that’s what I thought.

What is going on? Can somebody help me with this? I included my keyfiles under my post. any clues there?

      Greetings and thanks in advance,

      Wiwa

Excel is a middle tool to kinda help you in the chaos of keys.
Unfortunately excel to use it needs some level of experience on it. Even though Kolbe did a fine job and I am very good with excel it takes me also some time to take the correct path and get correct results.
Excel doesn’t actually create the key file, but a list with the keys you inputed or altered. Then you copy from Excel to the key file and paste there. If the keys already exist in current key file u must delete those first or change the corresponding line.
U can do from a whole file to just one command. That’s up to you.

So observe the sheets in the excel workbook first to understand the logic. Do one command to try if you got it (backup your keyfile first) and then you can do magic.

          Het Arty,

Thank you for your quick and informative reply. To get things straight, does this mean that when you export a keyfile from the excel sheet the resulting keyifile is’nt the standalone keyfile but rather a part of it?

You’re supposed to copy the content of the resulting keyfile in another keyfile(Bms-full for example)?

          Thanks for your help!

Perhaps your starting point might be the article DirectX Shifting Facility https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/content.php?153-DirectX-Shifting-Facility

Thanks Cobalt, I’ve read this informative article. Indeed, it gives me a lot of insight but can’t help scratching my head now and then thinking ‘wow, complicated…it’s a pity that besides learning the jet you have to learn this stuff as well, certainly with the limited time I have’.

Hope there will be a better implementation of some sort of application in the future. But I must say that I have a lot of respect for the ones that made the editor file. Wow, so clever. More than I can handle apparently. But, we’ll get there, with the help of some friendly folks who take the time to help.

              Thanks!
