Ive done the search but found now’t. (nothing)

Can’t find any printable F18 ramp start checklists.
I’m only interested in checklists that relate to “active switches” within BMS F-18.

Would anyone like to share a checklist please?

      Alligin.

It’s basically the same check list as the F16, as the avionics model is basically the F16 avionics. There are one or two exceptions, but they are limited/minor. For example, flaps to half and Wing Unfold.

          Yeah,

          Thanks Agave.

It is very similar. I’ve done a few f18 ramps. But due to different switch locations I’m looking for an ordered BMS F18 ramp checklist per the book except the needles checks due to BMS limitations.

Ok, no check list per se that I am aware of.

Docs folder in BMS has the switch locations and callbacks: x:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\Docs\Checklists & Cockpit Diagrams\F-18 Cockpit Diagram\3D cockpit F-18 Hornet.pdf

I did this video, which basically replicates the F16 ramp start in the F/A-18:

Burner did this one which purports to follow the NATOPs startup, but I don’t understand how that’s possible with the limits imposed by BMS:

“This checklist procedure is basically based on the official USN NATOPS F/A-18C/D manual.”

That video has an error. He clicks the bleed air knob twice instead of once. The correct position is SimAirSourceNorm which is a single click. That happens to correspond to the cockpit art “L OFF” on the F-18 in BMS. The annotations point out this correction.

In any case this kind of thing highlights how functional mistakes are practically unavoidable unless the reality of the shoehorn-ing of F-16 systems into F-18 clothing takes absolute priority over pretending to be in a genuine F-18.

Starting the F-18 confused me so I went about trying to convert my F-16 procedure to the F-18 and realized I don’t have a good codified F-16 procedure so that’s what I’m doing first. Anyway the goal was to take every F-18 item and do it in the exact same way as the F-16 when practical and writing in such a way that it would show both the F-18 cockpit art labels and the F-16 reality that that represents side by side. This was supposed to combat the “I just flip this switch because they tell me to but I really don’t know what it really does” tendency that the BMS F-18 fosters.

Both videos have the error. One notes it in the annotations, the other in the comments/description. Fortunately it’s not a (BMS) ‘fatal’ error, merely annoying as it results in canopy/pressure warning at around 27,000 feet.

For what it’s worth, here’s the checklist I use. I can’t vouch for its correctness, but it seems to work…

                  1. Fuel - check NORMAL
                  2. Bleed air - one click to LEFT
                  3. APU - ON
                  4. Batter- UP
                  5. Comm 1 selected
                  6. Set UHF.VHF volumes
                  7. Parking Brake - ON
                  8. (Back up CHECK IN)
                  9. Engine start - JFS/Idle detent as usual
                  10. APU off
                  11. ALIGN - NORMAL
                  12. All 5 avionics switches on LH waist panel UP
                  13. Radar - OPER
                  14. DED on (next to BCN knob)
                  15. MFDs on
                  16. L/R Hardpoints ON
                  17. Oxygen ON
                  18. ECM - XMIT
                  19. Dispenser Bypass - ON
                  20. Chaff/Flare - ON (above ECM knob)
                  21. RWR POWER and OFFSET enabled
                  22. DTE load
                  23. DED in HUD (next to Video record)
                  24. UFC - UP
                  25. DL - ON
                  26. Pitot heat - AUTO
                  27. Seat - ARMED
                  28. Clear faults
                  29. Taxi light ON
                  30. INS to NAV

                  Might be some help anyway…

I assumed “Dump” position would not pressure feed the external tanks but closer reading of the -1 shows that it dumps cockpit pressurization and all other functions still function. OFF or RAM would prevent external tank feed. Still it’s an example of doing something based on misleading information.

After watching both vids on closer inspection I now understand the problems you guys have had. Some of switches don’t relate to what they actually do in the F-18 (gen switches are hard points etc)

Just lost a little interest on ramping an 18 in that case.

                      But not complaining too much.
I do have a 16-18 to ramp. Better than nowt [emoji106]

Yes, exactly. Applies in a variety of areas …. HMCS, Stores configuration, HUD configuration, etc.

It’s why you can’t necessarily map an NATOPs checklist/start procedure to the BMS F/A-18. Instead, you need to map a BMS F-16 start procedure to a BMS F/A-18.
