Silly Falcon4\. Mission fail
-
Took off on a 2 ship DEAD targeting 203rd ADA (SA2)
killed the radars with 88s and reduced the ground vehicles to a couple of zil’s lobbing sdbs in. The dmg radius on those seems…. a bit high… considering that it’s supposedly a low collateral weapon.Unit down to 11%, zero of which could actually conduct ada.
Even killed a 2 ship of red air on the way home.
Pilot ratings excellent.
Mission failed.
Even though you did not impact ADA other units were able to strike.Yes I am sure I hit the right unit.
The question is that there was a “SA2 Site” (infrastructure) that remained 100%. Do falcon want me to kill that somehow? No coords for it… like a whole city. Is there a building on the site that needed hit, an outhouse or whatever?
Thanks

the SA-2 sites themselves are just sites that the ADA battalions hook into and defend (usually they’re in the middle of the countryside somewhere: previous versions of falcon required the ADA battalions to be defending “something” so you couldn’t just place them in the middle of the country)
they have no physical structures and don’t really exist on the map.
as to why you failed the mission, the only realistic reason is you didn’t hit the right battery. AFAIK there is no other fail condition for DEAD.

Are you sure about that? I could be wrong, but I thought they had bracket shaped concrete walls that AA units would ‘dock’ at. Pretty sure most of them do if you recon one in the UI.

Your talking about HART sites.

@b.s.:
Yes I am sure I hit the right unit.
I don’t think you did… otherwise mission would have been a great success.

Well, I have flown it again. I got pretty much identical results,
Reduced the same unit down to 2xZIL.This time the game threw me a bone, Partial Success…
The unit has been reduced to 15% effectiveness and probably won’t be employed for a day…The post strike recon of that unit showed it at 11% (again)
This time we took out 3/4 of a flight of mig23’s after the strike.
Silly wingman absolutely refused to engage the 4th guy (love that AI)Well anyway, two missions, basically the exact same stuff destroyed.
One failed, the other partial success.I guess.
-
and you’re sure it’s the same one? keep in mind some SA-2 sites will probably have two battalions there which means if you’re pre-planning targets or just hunting them ad hoc you may be hitting slightly different targets.
i am actually pretty sure the only thing that matters in DEAD is that you kill your assigned target. it’s not like sweep/BARCAP where you can shoot down 12 aircraft alone and then fail because you failed to maintain your station area, for instance.
-
Yep 100% identical to the first mission from the other day (except for the red air that happened to be in the area)

I take the mission success or failure with a grain of salt, especially with SEAD/DEAD or BARCAPs. Always too many variables involved that can alter your mission. Just tonight was tasked with a pair of strike eagles with JSOWs to hit an sa-2 site. There weren’t any radars at the location and I threw a couple of 88s at a pair of 10 sites that little up. Conclusion, the Eagles salted the earth and annilated the site. I got 2 kills on the 10s. 10% operational site and a failed mission (didn’t reach the target)… There you go… Gotta love Falcon!

Yeah I was thinking, TOT was never… because yeah i’m going to fly right over an active SAM…
silly falcon.on my second go, after the SAM was destroyed, we probably overflew the target location on the way to killing the migs.
that’s probably why.
