Make HUD go bye-bye
-
This may be a silly question, but what the heck…My aging eyes are really strained staring at the Hornet HUD.( here’s what my eyes feel like )Is there a way to remove the HUD and just use the JHMCS? I see that fine. I haven’t tried just turning off the HUD, though I suspect the HMCS would still blank over the HUD?

You can turn the brightness all the way down.
I don’t know what affect that would have on the HMCS though??
Yeah, the HMCS would blank out over the HUD.

Have you tried changing the HUD color??

In the viper at least, you can adjust the HMCS blanking in the pit, through the correct DED page. If the hornet is using the viper avionics, and has the viper DED, you should be able to save a DTC load which saves the HMCS and HUD states you desire.

Thanks, Guys. Your right, Cloud, the yellowish color is better. It’s funny, even back in the JF18 days I had to adjust HUD color, but never in the Viper, in BMS or F4AF. Also, the “normal” green HMCS is fine everywhere.
And Blu, good tip, going to try that tonight. -
You can also save and load it so it’s the same color everytime you jump in the pit.
ALT+C, then S to Save
ALT+C, then L to Load(If it doesn’t load automatically)C9

Just as an update, p.74 in he Dash-1 covers this, and it is modeled in BMS.
I was short of time last night, so I only tested it in the Viper in Instant Action. It is a lot easier for me to see then the Hornet HUD. You can also turn off the in-cockpit blanking.
I plan to fly a few to test this out, mainly to see how flying without pitch scale goes. If that is an issue, maybe I can make it workable with the Shift+3 display.
