When using emergency jettison, if the SMS is one of the three quick select pages on the right MFD, and the SMS page is not selected, the SMS page will be replaced by BLANK.
If the SMS page is currently selected, it does not disappear.

The problem seems to be that when EMER JETT is depressed, it will take your currently selected page on the right MFD and make it into the SMS page. When EMER JETT is released, it will return the quick slot to its previous page, but will not return the SMS page to its place, leaving BLANK. If the SMS page is on the left MFD, even if it’s selected, it will be turned into BLANK.

I believe this is a known bug.

I’m sure it’s known to some. There was a thread that mentioned something like it from 2011.

I find myself in many situations where it’s necessary to emergency jettison, and this bug totally screws me every time I have to do so. It seems whenever the emer. jett. button is depressed the SMS appears in the first page of the right MFD and then subsequently disappears altogether when the emer. jett. is unpressed. It looks as if the Emergency Jettison button is actually a dedicated master mode. Whatever the case, it just so happens that my default setup has the HSD as the first page on the right MFD. That’s why I get screwed. Every time I jettison like that I lose half my SA. Sure I could change my setup, but the fundamental issue is still present…

seems like a real problem to me.

Happens to me too and screws me over, sometimes wont let me pickle and i must recycle AA master modes and re add sms page. I would spend whatever time it took to fix it myself if i had the source code…

E-jettison does screw up the SMS, issue is known. As for the fix… Wait 3-4 weeks 😉

I remember having problems with E-jet, using MSL-step sorted it for me in A-A mode. ( more than two years ago, though …)

I imagine that despite what Dee Jay has said, eventually it will get worked on as part of the teams commitment to making it as real as it gets.

I also rather suspect that what he meant was that there will not likely be a hotfix update 8 for such a bug.

                          Yep.

Not to mention an apparently “simple” bug could have a lot of underlying causes sometimes requiring a lot of code rewriting. Which means longer testing, debugging, etc. So if we feel its not worth it, it wont be immediatly fixed.

Ultimately, its the BMS team decision. Nice or not, deal with it.

I think this comes from the fact that MFD page formats can’t be duplicated. When I decided which shortcut to put the DTE page on to load DTC, I found that using the #1L slot that the FCR is on caused that slot to be blank after load. The solution was to move my DTE page replacement to #3L and it loads well with my preferred shortcut layout. The way the shortcuts are assigned in the E-J master mode is probably conflicting with the initial master mode such that SMS page is assigned on two different MFDs or slots very briefly which causes one to be erased.

Try experimenting with different slot placements of the SMS page (#1L #2L #3L #1R #2R #3R) and I bet at least one case will not have this issue.

1.7.3.1 The following SMS page displays provide controls and data for these functions:
OFF (SMS off) – When the MMC and ST STA power switch is OFF or if the MFDS can not communicate with the
                                SMS.
STBY (SMS standby) – STBY mode allows loading and verification of stores inventory.
INV (inventory) – Automatically displayed when standby mode is accessed and selectable via all SMS modes except EJ,
                                S-J, and BIT.
S-J (selective jettison) – Selected via OSB adjacent to S-J mnemonic on all SMS pages except BIT, data entry, and E-J.
E-J (emergency jettison) – Selected via EMER STORES JETTISON button on landing gear panel; overrides all other
master modes except AIM-120 launch in progress.

AAM (air-to-air missile) – Selected via AAM/GUN rotary OSB’s when A-A master mode is selected.
MSL (missile override) – Selected hands-on via DOGFIGHT/missile override switch; overrides all master modes except
                                E-J.
DGFT (dogfight) – Selected hands-on via DOGFIGHT/missile override switch; overrides all master modes except E-J
                                and BIT. Provides EEGS/LCOS rotary.
GUN (gunnery) – Selected via AAM/GUN rotary when A-A is selected or A-G/GUN rotary when A-G is selected and
provides EEGS rotary in A-A or STRAFE gunsight in A-G.
A-G (air-to-ground) – Selected via A-G/GUN rotary when A-G master mode is selected.
BIT (built-in test) – Selected via MFD TEST page.

                                …

1.7.3.12 Emergency Jettison Mode Page (E-J). The E-J page is similar in format to the INV and S-J pages and is displayed
in E-J (Figure 1-85). Emergency jettison is a one-step operation, clearing all conventional stores on stations 3 through 7. Air-toair
missiles loaded on stations 1-3 and 7-9 are not jettisoned. Breaking the frangible emergency stores jettison (EMER STORES
JETTISON) cover on the landing gear panel and depressing and holding the button beneath it selects the emergency jettison
mode, overrides the selected master mode for as long as the button is depressed, and jettisons the stores. With the MMC and ST
STA power off, emergency bus power is applied to the SMS as long as the button is held depressed. On release of the button, the
system returns to the overridden master mode.
Emergency jettison is allowed only if weight on wheels is not present unless the
GND JETT switch is in the ENABLE position. The HUNG STORE advisory is displayed with the appropriate station numbers at
the bottom center of the MFD if hung stores had previously been detected. The SMS does not detect hung stores while in the EJ
mode. Only stores that may be jettisoned are displayed. Like selective jettison, if A-G pylons are present at station 3 or 7, the
SMS checks for fuel tanks that are present, the release at station 6 is delayed to insure a safe jettison.

                                NOTE
EMER STORES JETTISON button must be depressed for a minimum of one second.

Workaround: switch to DGFT OVRD mode and activate EMER JETT. Cancel DGFT OVRD, return to your previous mode and page config will be exactly as before emergency stores jettison.

Very fast, very clean, no SA loss, works everytime for me.

I suppose that is a rather optimistic reading of his words. I took them to mean that it’s not going to be fixed, ever.

For the sake of BMS being the best sim it can be, I’ll agree to hope he meant it will be fixed in the 4.33+ future.
