Shimmer/Moire textures on AMD cards (max 8 AF?)
-
Hi Guys,
If have alot of shimmiring textures around the coastlines over Kunsan, but also on the ground on Ostsee. I have a ATI Radeon 290x and read about this paragraph in the manual.
g_nAnisotropicValue Sets the max anisotropic filter value to use if anisotropic filtering is ON in the setup UI. Valid values: 0 = max available (default), 2, 4, 8, 16 (not recommended for AMD). This is a potential fix for coastlines shimmering with AMD cards.
What is not recommended for AMD cards? Only the value 16 or the complete setting?
Newer AMD cards especially benefit from this as leaving the BMS AF setting selected can result in a moiré or shimmering effect near coastlines. Forcing AF on (up to 8x) in CCC resolves this issue, or you can use the config option g_nAnisotropicValue which sets the max anisotropic filter value to use if anisotropic filtering is ON in the setup UI. Valid values: 0 = max available (default), 2, 4, 8, 16.
Does this mean, you have to disable Anisotropic filtering in BMS and force AF to max 8 in the ATI panel?
Edit: I tested the last option, but it gives me worse filtering that the option in BMS.
Thanks in advance

I use set g_nAnisotropicValue 8 with my 290 with latest 17.1.2 drivers.
