I have an msi laptop attached to a 55inch vizio tv. I recently bought 2 mfd panels from thrustmaster, and I was thinking of putting down $300 to buy 2 8inch screens to go with them. I just wanted to make sure that would work with my setup, since I already have my laptop attached to a 55inch tv. Would this work so that I can have my radars right at my finger tips?

Also, anyway to add the DED?

      Thanks.

There are several extraction tools available here in these forums. You can add a lot more than the DED. You can have RWR, Gauges, Console panels, etc. Pretty much everydammnedthing in the pit can be extracted, minus the stick, throttle, and rudder pedals. There are even some programs that work with touch screens allowing you to flip switches on extracted panels. The sky is the limit with what you can do here, so it’s pretty much up to you.

If you have a monitor screen that is doing nothing but being stashed in a closet, then I would test with that first. See how you like it. I just used mounting puttty and stuck the MFD’s right to the screen. Some pits I have seen have the MFD’s mounted to plexiglass and overlayed on the monitor.

I use the built in extractor in the sim (see Cockpit Display Extraction, on the Launch screen). It comes with an FPS hit, so if you are borderline in that area, you might want to research some of the other options in this forum. To name a few, search for MFDE, YAME, Helios. I’m sure there’s others, Maybe someone else can add to that list.

I’m assuming you are limited on ports w/ a laptop, which is why I recommend a second monitor instead of the two screens. Not sure what your graphics card situation is.

          I’m a dot…

            @Scotters:

First issue –- laptop. I’m guessing the FPS will be limited already due to the hardware.
Second issue — 55" TV. 4K? 1080p? Either way, this is putting load on your hardware. Adding 2 more screens will just lower your framerates.

Assuming it’s a beefy gaming laptop and you have framerates to spare, consider buying a touchscreen instead. You won’t be able to use your Cougar MFDs, but you’ll be able to operate every switch, knob, and button in the cockpit, display DED, PFL, and MFD images, as well as data card exports, airfield charts/approach plates, and so on. Take a look at my Helios profile or try out weepop’s Helios profile to get an idea of what Helios offers.

Pretty soon, I’ll be releasing my new profile which I hope will provide adequate reason for people to upgrade to TWO touchscreens 🙂

Thanks for all the help and ideas. If I just go with one touchscreen monitor to put on my desk right in front of my chair, what kind would you guys recommend?

And no, I never heard of Helios nor YAME until now. Wow. Do I’m not going to buy those 2 little monitors, I will mess around with the MFDs when they get here (already shipped) but I will probably go the touchscreen route eventually.

The tv is not 4k just 1080p. The msi laptop has a gtx960m video card. So far my framerates are fine.

When I got my MFDs, I loved how it improved my ability to operate the in-cockpit MFDs and I was no longer having to concentrate on keeping my head still as I did the “cockpit work.” I wanted to bring that “ease of use” to more stuff in the cockpit but I was too poor and didn’t have the time to make a full-replica pit. So it was Helios. Not long after, I sold my Cougar MFDs.

1080p main display… what are your framerates in TE 13? Do a test following my methods here and if you can get 50+fps, I would think you’ll have the framerates to spare for a secondary screen. It should be okay, but that would really depend on what you consider “acceptable.”

As for touchscreen recommendations, anything really. Ideally, it would be 1920x1080 res. at 22" or bigger. As for positioning it, that would really be dependent on your simpit setup.

I have attached the throttle and stick to my tall back chair that has the jetseat pad on it for the vibration. Then I have a little mobile desk that I slide in front that has my keyboard and mouse, and I will put the mfds on that for now, before I get a 22 inch touch screen, then I will put that on an angle in front of me on the little mobile desk. That’s the plan anyways. On top of my 55inch tv is the track ir. I also have a microphone that I put on the mobile desk for keyspeech.

Of course I priced a cockpit, those guys in Poland have one going for around $12,000! When I win the lotto I’m getting it!

Thanks for the help and advice. Gosh I love this game!

What about a Planar 24 inch touchscreen? I know nothing about these things? Or an Acer? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I2P6TEG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1∣=A1XBP962TML3AH

I really would appreciate your advice guys, you are really helping me here as I dive into this hobby.

Btw, Stevie, I was planning on stealing that cockpit, but I have no idea how I would carry the thing!

That 24" touch panel does look like a fair deal, actually…

All the bare LCD panels of various sizes you could want for this sort of thing here -

                          http://stores.ebay.com/chinatobby/category485978819-/_i.html?_fsub=485978819&_sid=1070328859&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

BTW - 7" 4:3 ones fit best behind Thrustmaster bezels (that’s what I have for my own cockpit project), unless you want to use the overage area for other extractions like the DED. As mentioned YAME, MFDE, or BMS itself can extract instrument selections to other displays…so it’s all up to your choice(s) and budget.

Anyone else have any ideas on a good 24 inch touchscreen monitor that will work attached to my laptop which is already attached to the 55 ich screen t.v.? Windows 10.

Stevie, I have no idea what those lcd panels are that you linked too. Anything like that makes me nervous. I will just go for now with the two mfds on my desk until I get a new 24 inch touch screen ion a few months or maybe sooner. Between buying thrustmaster pedals, then attaching my hotas to my chair, then just buying two mfds, and now just buying on ebay a usb cougar hotas that I always wanted, I have been going a bit nuts. The last thing will be the touch screen, and then that’s it!

To be clear you do not need a touch screen to operate your TM mfd`s or display exported instruments and other displays such as RWR. Naturally a touch screen is essential for Helios.

I believe u have on that laptop a second port or third to connect those two ore one monitor?
                                        Might consider usb monitor solution?

If you’re on ViperPits, “Pegasus” sells replica cockpit parts…very accurate replicas - he’s located in Germany; be prepared to make a sizable investment…

What you see in my picture is a combination of his structure/electronics and real F-16 parts - the larger instruments are real aircraft parts which I will either modify or integrate directly. The MFD bezels are Thrustmaster with 7" LCDs from Chinatobby (my Ebay link) - I drive those using USB 3.0 to VGA adapters.
