So I have about a year or so of BMS F-16 under my belt. Never have tried to fly anything else. I recently decided to try out the F-18. I watched you tube videos, took extensive notes etc… Problem is right about the time I need to call ATC and taxi the plane makes a strange “clunk” sound and a few seconds later explodes. This happens every time I try to ramp start the hornet. Went back and checked the docs that came with BMS, re-watched all the related YouTube videos I can find. As far as I can tell Im doing everything exactly the way its been shown to me. ……On a side note a couple times when I hear this audible “clunk” I have switched to external view and found my jet (melting??) or sinking into the tarmac just before the explosion. Anybody seen this before or have a remedy?

I’ve seen this happen on a carrier. It has to do with FPS dropping and dsync causing the plane and ship to ‘collide’. Once I got a better video card I haven’t had it happen again. (happen to me in F-14 and F-18 but only on carrier.)

Thanks!! I would bet my paycheck that is exactly the problem. I get maybe 20fps at best. I love this sim so much im dropping some big bucks this summer on a top of the line Origin gaming laptop. Then im sure it will be just like a brand new sim. Wont know what to do with myself when I get more than 20fps !!!

Yeah, that’s it, low system specs.

            What hardware you have now?

I have an HP Pavilion dv7, i5 processor, AMD Radeon HD 6300M. I got it back in 2011 when I was in college. Not really a gaming laptop I know but its what I had when I found BMS last year. Been doing some research and so far I’ve found Origin to be the best for some one like me who lives in remote Alaskan bush and doesn’t have access to city conveniences and shipping. ( a trip to the post for me is an all day occurrence in which I travel a little over 30 miles via snowmobile)……anyways…any suggestions for a PC? It has to a laptop because of how much I travel. Ive priced the pc I want in the ball park of 4 grand.

The problem is the Radeon. The processor is fine.

That Radeon HD 6300M is a low end GFX card by today’s standards, it’s not geared toward gaming, it’s more of a business card.

I have a HD 6900 1GB on board RAM and it’s runs fine, but I’ll be upgrading that next year.

I haven’t look to much at current stuff on the market due to can’t afford right now.

My dad used to live up in AK and he did the same trekking you’re used to!!!

But there’s lot of guys here on the boards that will give you a good idea of what’s the best for the dollar for sure.

Just start a thread down in the Free Discussion or Hardware Corner Forums asking questions and you’ll surely get some responses.

                Good Luck,

Hey, I’m not the only one who blows up on take off. Though with me it was an F-16, no frame rate issues, but I still found a way when I was first learning the game. Now I just blow up on landing. 😛

Im no expert by any means when it comes to flying. I found that landing was hard but once I got the hang of it landing became simple and easy. Made me wonder why it was so hard. I suppose once one learns to land without exploding the next step is to understand and use charts/proper approaches (not just following tower instructions but using the correct approach procedure without the tower holding your hand) along with understanding and implementing HSI, tacan, etc… Easier said than done for some of us!!!
