Blast From The Past

My main pc is in the shop, hopefully getting the uncommanded keystroke/mouseclick problem solved. So, this weekend I fired up my old XP and flew Janes F/a-18 and of course F4AF .It was an interesting feeling, the “old” gameplay, no Track IR, etc.
While I’ll admit it was fun to sim without the Murphy’s Law type experience that my BMS life seems to become at times(just plug and play),that wasn’t my major impression. Doing JF18 and F4AF felt like sitting at a pc playing a game. BMS does feel more like I’m in a cockpit.
So, once again, Devs…:headb: -
And yet, we’re speaking of the most recent ones. Sensible topic, still. Let alone the sentimental value of the memories they gave birth to, the “first” sims were a big part of what fed the kid I was with interest in anything that flies. Learning to make a route for a F19 (the fictional F117 back then), avoiding radars and SAMs, when you’re like 10 year-old, can leave durable prints. These first sims told my brains how I would start to learn using BMS, I can’t really compare but I think it played a major role to soften the effort and lassitude to start it all over again.
I can’t dissociate the history of military flight simulation from my own life history. What’s next? I could stick with “BMS 2.0” and many others very long, I suppose.
Ah damn, almost forgot I’m having real flight lessons when I have time to drive there…

Oh yeah, loved all of those and I think Spectrum Holobyte put out Flight of the Intruder which was a gas for it’s day. Jane’s Apache Longbow was friggin awesome too!

Apache Longbow, I regret it was too demanding for my comp and most of others’. I loved its nice Air-Ground avionics.

Still got my copies of Spectrum Holobyte’s “Falcon” and “Flight of the Intruder” and may even still have Apache Longbow too.

You betcha, Compadre.
Hopefully ,nobody took my statement about JF18,F4AF (and Longbow,JF15,Apache/Havoc,Commanche…), as a criticism of them. I appreciate them for the joy they gave me.And also, for when something like BMS came along I, that I could appreciate it.
