Zoom on x55 throttle?
-
Hi all, i’m trying to assign zoom to the throttle rotary (G) the lower of the two. At the moment I have it as radar scan altitude, set in the menu, and it works fine for that. I use this for zoom in dcs and it works really well, so i’m trying to get it in bms too. Had no luck so far though, i have it set in the menu as fov zoom and I can see the bar moving in the slider, but nothing in game. Anyone have this assigned and working on their x55?
-
M, I’m not at home but will try to give you an alternative. I have been able to set up zoom on the scroll wheel on my x-65(hopefully will work for you). I believe you set up to the scroll wheel as Scroll in SST, then in the UI set the zoom control to the option other then “FOV”.
Somebody can jump in if I’m not remembering it correctly, but hopefully this will get you started. -
Thanks lad, I already use the scroll wheel but I find it a bit clunky, and have to move my hand a bit. The bottom rotary is so much better for zooming but if I can’t use it for anything other than scan alt in bms then that’s ok

You’re very welcome. Ok then ,let’s think outside the box for a bit.I wonder what would happen if you(or rather if you can) “band” rotary 2 and make the bands the default scroll up/down commands

The zoom should be eliminated from this simulation.;)
Concentrate on flying as realistic as possible starts with keeping the profile for your X55 as close to realistic as possible. You will feel the resistance rise against this dark force.
Do not give away manditory rotaries for crap!

I could certainly try that drtbkj, might get a chance tonight
Snelle, thanks for your thoughts on the matter of zooming
I use a profile I made myself, and zoom is an important function for me and while I do like to have a fairly realistic setup, I’m not adverse to changing it to suit myself

While I share your desire to be “as close to real as possible”, sometimes reality must prevail. We are after all looking at pc monitiors, not the real world. So, with all due respect, if for example my aging eyes need zoom to enjoy BMS, I would not call that “crap”. Bring on the Dark Force!

You are not interpreting correctly what I just wrote, with a
to start with.
Where did I say that zooming is crap? Trading a mandatory rotary for whatever option is indeed. -
Got this sorted, went into the Saitek programmer, and set the rotary as directional axis, in my key file, zoom in/out is numplus & num minus, so programmed that, then set the ingame menu to use keyboard for antenna elevation. Works well enough, I had to put up the sensitivity to max in the software as it was a bit stuttery so that helped. I will map the antenna elevation to the throttle wheel instead, should work well enough
