For some reason my virtual head seems to be located in the right position for the F16 but for other cockpits the FOV and HUD don’t seem right to me.

      Here’s the F16 no issue:

Now the A10 sitting in the same position and recentering TrackIR. Notice the altitude on the HUD is cutoff.

Now the A10 moving my head closer – and it’s not comfortable – to the TrackIR sensor. I can now see the speed on the HUD but I am too close to it and losing FOV.

Now the F15E. I am sitting normally as I would in the F16. The HUD is okay but the FOV isn’t what I’d prefer. I’d like it a bit wider.

Which I can do but I have to reset the FOV every time I do the “look” callback. So it’s not a big deal like the A10 but I’d like to have the FOV “look” toggle back to something like this. I am hoping there is a setting for each cockpit instead of setting the FOV globally before launching the sim?

Now the F18. Again, this is like the A10 problem. I am sitting in my chair as I would in the F16. TrackIR recenter and some of the HUD is cut off, i.e. altitude.

If I lean forward (uncomfortably) and recenter, I can now see the altitude. The altitude box is missing the right border but at least I can read the whole number. Also, doing so changes the FOV to be narrower, which is something I’d like to avoid.

Anyway, so I am not sure what the best way to go about this is. Is there a way to change the pilot’s default head position and FOV in the BMS config files for the different cockpits, or should I try to create different TrackIR profiles for the cockpits and somehow offset the forward-aft axis output so BMS thinks I am sitting closer to the sensor even though I am sitting comfortably. Thanks in advance for any help!

Looks like recenter command doesnt work as it should. R u 100% sure that is the right one?

Oh I am never 100% sure, I’ve said that way too many times and found out I was wrong afterwards. 😄

I checked TrackIR and under Hotkeys > Action I have four options Center | Pause | Precision | Profile. I have Joystick Button 2 mapped to Center.

This F-18 view is true for my setup as well. I always thought it to be some sort of compromise since it’s not an F/A-18 sim

And joystick button 2 is assigned to which key?
And in track ir which key is for reset?

Joystick 2 is not assigned. I use it for TrackIR only. Joystick 2 is set to Center, which also resets Center each time you press it. So I found that if I want to go heads down I tilt my head up a bit and Joystick 2/TrackIR Center and now I don’t get a strained neck pointing my head down and looking up with my eyes. Conversely, if I am going heads up I look down a bit and Joystick 2/Center and now I can scan the skies a lot easier (in fact this helps if you have TrackIR freezing and stuttering looking high especially on the 3-9 line.

F16 HUD representation in other aircraft might have something to do with it. Haven’t you got it yet…?

It’s an F-16 sim. Using F-16 avionics in other jets, compromises will have to be made, and if this is less than optimal for your viewing pleasure then that’s the way it is. I understand DCS do a pretty good A-10 and F-15…

I think I’ll be staying right here, thank you.

Let’s see if BMS agrees with you? So, why has BMS put so much effort into a sweet F18 model and pit and AV8 model and pit? Why go to all that trouble and then, unless I am mistaken, toot their own horns about the extensive work they have done on these models? They should be proud of that and the work they’ve done on the Tornado, F15E, A10A. I think also the Mirage. Yes, it’s primarily an F16 sim. I get that. But do you “get” that BMS is not one person, it’s a group and some members of that group are not solely focused on the F16. Some of them are working on other things.

I started this thread to ask for help with something that BMS implemented. This isn’t a mod, it’s BMS. If there’s a problem with the HUD not displaying right in these airframes because its an F16 engine and there’s no way to adjust it, I’ll say “Oh drat, well when you get time could you see if you could get that sorted please. Love your sim.” But I haven’t heard that, if you have heard that officially from BMS please let me know and direct me to the announcement please.

I have the same problem with the F-18 HUD.

I remember reading another thread about it awhile ago but IIRC there was no confirmation by the BMS team that they were working on it or not. I just do as suggested earlier, lean forward and recenter. Mirages are good though.

Be nice to have it fixed but low priority I imagine.

Thanks Sarge! I do mess with the leaning forward and back recentering. All the pits and huds are appreciated and usable, but I have this issue with some. I was just wondering if someone had a solution in either BMS config or TrackIR config. I think messing with TrackIR might work if you can have different profiles output different values based on the same input. I will definitely struggle with that if a tweak or workaround hasn’t already been invented. Thanks again.

I’m not sure what you mean there Arty. It actually is a real pain the hind-end doing this recentering business and it can take several attempts to get something right. In my situation, like I said, I tend to like to recenter when I go heads up or heads down to reduce TrackIR freezing and pausing and also for physical comfort. Each time you do that in the F16, no worries. But in these other pits, you end up really fighting TrackIR, the pit, and not fighting bandits. So yeah, I can make do but looking for a better fix – I hope that makes sense and answers your question?

I assume that means you don’t feel like addressing my arguments (about BMS being a group, some of whom have put a lot of effort to make BMS more than just an F16 sim) directly and honestly and would rather attack me personally? Why? For having the unmitigated gall to come on a BMS forum and ask for help with a BMS implemented feature of a BMS product? If you want to curse at me or whatever for flying A10, F15E, and F18 in BMS, you can send me a PM and it will be just between us as far as I am concerned.
