Hey guys, i wanted to play around with the Maverick’s boresight mode but i can’t slew the big “plus” cursor across the hud. Krause said in one of his videos that the radar slew keys or joystick equivalents do that but not for me, i am afraid.

If I remember correctly, BORE mode allows to lock a point in the middle of the HUD. Maybe can you move afterwards. What you seem to describe is more like VIS mode.

PS: not sure it’s important, but the video you’ve seen could apply only for 4.32.

First of all, as far as I know Krause’s tutorial on mavericks is meant for 4.32 & not 4.33 so verify which version you’re playing… I’m assuming it’s 4.33 so in that case, I fired up BMS real quick to see what the deal is… Without consulting the manuals, I already got them to work so I’m not sure what you’re doing but it’s pretty simple… I concluded the following:

The cross does not move anymore to begin with so you need to point the cross onto the area of your target by flying the plane into the required attitude… Then press TMS up & you should see a circle which is the point to which the maverick’s seeker is point is looking at… At that point you can slew the circle onto the specific target you want to hit… Don’t forget to press TMS up again to lock the mav’s seeker before firing it off…

Let me know if you run into more trouble…

            Delivery option
BORE – The AGM-65 is pointed to the nominal HUD boresight.
            PRE – Preplanned E-O submode.
            VIS – Visual E-O submode.

I’m glad there are 3 ways to say that 🙂

Krause said in one of his videos…

I would recommend checking out either the BMS manuals, or the lockheed martin produced technical orders describing aircraft operation.

Both of those have review processes in place to catch errors and misconceptions. I am yet to come across a video production teaching BMS concepts which has anything equivalent. I am also yet to come across a BMS teaching video which does not contain errors - including my own, even.

Even when Krause’ videos were not outdated by a new BMS release, they still had plenty of points that could have been improved by an iterative review process.
