      Hi all,
Is there any reason why i might not, should not, or must not use the AP to assist me in an IFR approach in the F16. I find using the ALT AP mode extremely useful (especially in bad weather) in giving me one less thing to worry about and helping me on to the outer marker, and so making my approach safer. It even switches off automatically when i drop the gear.
      Cheers

No autothrottle or vertical guidance for the glideslope, nor horizontal for the localizer. It only controls pitch, heading, steerpoint, or altitude hold. FWIW, there was an experiment with an F-16 VISTA fitted with a different autopilot system that did have autothrottle and glideslope guidance as a testbed for UCAV.

        Check it out at F-16.net.

I’m familiar with the capabilities, and limitations of the AP in the F16’s in BMS. And its way better than nothing. Question is, is there any procedural or other reason why I should not use it (notwithstanding the limitations). I only use it to help get me to the glide slope.

Yeah because it lacks those things I mentioned (which you’re familiar), it cannot be certified for use on precision approaches.

              Thanks that answers my question!
