Is there a way to set the HQ Priority defaults?
-
I don’t like to get too nitty-gritty into the campaign, but I like to set up the initial priorities to something that makes sense. For instance, why are we bombing depots, but not having any CAS when there are NK tanks streaming through the DMZ? Is there a way to change the starting default settings for the campaign?
I’ve got Mission commander and well, quite frankly it scares me. I can change bases and aircraft no problem, but after that I get nervous about changing anything. Are there any instructions, or tips in the docs that I’m just not seeing regarding letting HQ run the war?

That would be nice, wouldn’t it? Maybe it’s possible? What I do is set a starting state for each campaign in each theater and save it. So then if I want to start a new campaign, just select that template and it’s all ready to go. While saving the mission and target sliders could ‘stick’ and still apply for all campaigns, there would be no way to (globally) save default PAKS since they are different for each campaign.
So once you have your initial set up done, before unpausing for the first time, save it as a template and you’re good to go for future runs in that campaign.

Oh yeah…really good (and so oblivious that I’m ashamed I hadn’t thought of it) idea.

There is a file, (actually a group of files, but AFAIK only one is really taken into consideration) where you can set it up.
In Tacedit and MC you can edit those values, but the won´t do the trick for the LAUNCH of the Campaign (it´s more like the status of it, once the campaign is already rolling).
The file is “indict.pri” in the same folder of the campaign. Open and edit carefully with notepad (it´s simple text self explanatory)
Beware though, that every campaign started on that theatre will follow the changes you introduce to it. Any of all the available campaigns.
Good luck and make backups of any edited file.

Oh wow…thanks for that info. Great community here, for sure!

Wait a minute, how many campaigns are you doing in a day?

Well I finished my Balkans Campaign. Kinda Cheated…had it on “recruit” level, and the last day I decided to play Commander and ordered the troops to the locations required to win. Just curious to actually see a campaign finish (never got though a whole one before). I’m bouncing around a bit to see which ones I like the most…in other words, which ones aren’t too hard that I rage-quit after every mission.

The first missions are confusing and requires a better level of situational awareness that you may have when you start experimenting with campaigns. I used to restrain to BARCAP missions to eliminate the air threats while staying over friendly territory, then I wanted to control my squadron; that’s when you really start to grab the thing and have fun with the campaign engine.

I’ve been keeping to Wild Weasel missions along the FLOT. The thing I’m struggling with is dealing with is the AI mission planner being…questionable. While I don’t mind making a few adjustments here and there, I’m tired of having to re-route my flight every time because the mission planner is all wonky. I have resorted (as suggested by the forum here) to tasking my own…and juggling the TOTs and available aircraft. I MAY decide to take my whole squadron away from HQ and run the damn thing myself.

Hehe, well you won’t need to go that far. Downgrade the priorities of the PAK deep in enemy territory and adjust so the AI takes care of defense where you need it… you’ll have free hands on planning the strikes you want. Leading your own squadron is interesting for aircratt availability, mainly.

I’m curious, doesn’t it work the same whether you fragged the mission or the ATO did? In other words, aren’t you finding that you need to adjust steerpoints regardless of whether the program or you had fragged the mission?
FWIW, I always take command of the squadron I am currently in. But here’s the rub… if you use your squadron’s aircraft to fill different flights in the same package you end up with congestion in the ATC flow back at base, as all surviving aircraft are each looking to land. Not necessarily a problem, and there are obviously ways around it (emergency). But for those of us who always follow ATC it can make for excessive orbiting and a long wait, particularly if yours isn’t the only fixed-wing unit based there. That’s where having an airbase with parallel runways (think Kimpo for example) is awesome because the ATC is using one runway for recoveries and one for departures which expedites the whole process significantly.
So it’s helpful to frag flights from different squadrons in to the same package when available, or at least that’s what I do because I want landing vectors as quickly as possible, reducing the congestion at home base.
And by the way congrats on your first campaign victory and your shiny new campaign medal. That’s a significant Falcon milestone!

I find that when I assign my own flight, I don’t get paired up with a squadron all the way across the map, and I don’t have to form with them. So far at least. Of course, I’ve mainly been fragging DEAD missions. In fact, I’m not sure why that on DEAD flights, HQ seems to always assign me another squadron for 2 flights of 2. Do those Hornet drivers really need that much help?
(I kid, my dad was a Navy A-7 pilot)

I see, I think I misunderstood and you were saying that you were tired of having to re-route when fragging your own. You meant re-routing the ATO-fragged flight right? Makes sense now. Good hunting.
