Cat I/III with Aim-120's loaded
-
Flying a sweep mission, I noticed the master caution light come after firing the first aamram. I had two wing tanks and four aamram’s loaded. The PFL indicated a stores/config fault. I switched from Cat III to Cat I and the MC light went out. First question: why does launching one aamram cause the config cat to switch? Second question: should I really be switching the cat from III to I after that first missile launch? This is in 4.33, U3. Others are seeing the same affect. (You can see the cat switch in the loadout screen with this configuration when you delete one of the -120’s.) Trippp

Because the load of 3 slammers plus tanks is CAT I. If you leave the switch in CAT III the aircraft will be more limited than it should be. In BMS you should always place the Stores Cat switch in the correct position.
Fun fact, the highly publicised dogfight between the F-35 and the F-16 that had the report on it leaked? The viper was wearing wingbags… a CAT I, 9g capable loadout once the tanks were dry.
