I’d avoid win10 update like the plague if I were you, esp. if you’re running older input devices, or value your privacy, or would like to keep control over your hardware (as much as MS permits when running win7).

Your gpu is already pretty much maxed out so I would not expect any significant fps boost by installing win10, maybe a fresh install of win7, but win10, never.

        All the best, Uwe

        System specs: win10pro / Linux Mint 20.x, 32GB RAM, nv 1070ti, 2x1 TB SSD, 1x4TB SATA; HOTAS Warthog (DX), TM MFDs, G25Shifter, T500RS wheel / pedals; CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core; MoBo: X570-A PRO (MS-7C37); Display: 43" LG nano 779pa (2560x1440), 19" Fujitsu-Siemens (1280x1024) used for DE; StreamDeck XL (ICP)

Win10 Creators Update posts more issues for me than whatever else it offers so I’m going back to Win10 Anniversary Edition.

For FPS boost, I would look more towards your settings and CPU speed than an OS change.

Thanks I only wanted the experience of someone that could compare the fps of the BMS on the same hardware using windows 7 and windows 8.1 or win10 as someone told there was a huge improvement in performance which I dont think but better ask before I try.

What are the issues. I know people that had issues with calibration of the hotas cougar when using The realsim TUSBA in windows 10.

I also run a 4790k (OC’d to 4.6) and a GTX 1080. There is no reason to need more FPS in Falcon given it already runs at a rate that will never cause you any kind of stuttering or slowed performance.

Where you do get an advantage with Win10 is if you are using the Rift (not sure about the Vive). The newer tech works will with Win10 and I have certainly seem frame increases, as have a lot of people. Check the DCS forums and you will find a number of references.

Is the rift compatible with bms 4.33?

It’s not that the rift isn’t compatible with BMS, it’s more like BMS isn’t compatible with VR.

Not at this time but there is a thread on the FlyInside forum that has asked them to see if they can work with BMS to implement VR such as they have with P3D. Hopefully they can help us out.

Why did this question even occur?

If you go Win10 Like some users have noted do not update to creators update. And if you can get Win10 Pro version, you can disable all privacy and spying in group policy editor.

The update to Win10 nevertheless raise quite a few valid questions

I’m not a fan of Win10 but let’s face it, not updating will at some point create problems for us wouldn’t it?

                                • The support will decrease and with time Win7 WILL be phased out. If not by lack of Microsoft support it will be by lack of support from third party development such as hardware and software - just like any Windows version.
                                • Plus the guys buying now new computer will certainly be tempted (logically) to buy the latest available, that’s Kabylake and these I heard won’t be that easy to be used with an older Win7.
                                • BMS is one thing, but what about other sims? FSX, X-plane, DCS. Wouldn’t these benefit better from Win10 that what actually BMS would?

So with the near future in mind, I think it’s too easy to simply say don’t go there. IMHO at some point will WILL have to go there.

My laptop runs Win10 and BMS very fine. Cougar runs fine as well
Matter of fact, multi screen is way better with WIn10 than with Win7
My pit computer runs Win7, but is in dire need for an update. The reason I haven’t updated it the unknown compatibility of all these third party software that runs the pit - and the max number of USB which we pitbuilders are very close to
But I am tempted to update the computer and go Win10 and make it work.

Running W10 with BMS too, but aren’t MS phasing out support of 7/8.1 for latest intel chips soon, if they haven’t already?

Windows support is not such a big deal for the average simmer. When was the last time you rang MS and got help with your sim crash. 🙂

I know not quite that simple, but Windows support doesn’t mean everything stops working. I used Win 2k & XP for many years beyond their support period. And I had Win7 RC running as my main Boot OS.

Yes we will go over to the dark side eventually, My Hope is still for a supported distribution of Linux/Unix one day. (dreaming)

I waited a long time to switch to Win10. Truth is I was only hurting myself.

Just this last few days I have gotten the dreaded ‘Your CPU is not supported by this version of windows’ message, and i’m not going to be getting any more updates etc that doesn’t really bother me as much as the messages that crop up, not sure how long I can hold out! But in all honesty, I should have upgraded to win10 when I built my new computer, now it looks like I will have to start over again.
