Even if I lock target in RWS mode, I go to STT-> DF mode before launch to hold it - and my missile can re-lock multiple times (so I am DF mode, aiming at target most of time).
I don’t know of any CG A2A missile which is able to fire outside of command guidance and later reacquire CG navigation.
on top of my head - ancient SA-2 was able to do it (blind launch + lock) even Falcon 3.0 and AF simulated this…i know it is SA missile, but very old and electronic was miniaturized later
I am not rocket scientist, but I know many advanced SARHs have sophisticated CCM systems, LOAL ability and some perhaps 2 way datalink to change its interception course…AA9 can be even guided by different MiG etc. The reality is very interresting, but there is huge gap in simulator - all SARHs are dumb and weak (share the same code from AA-1 or AA-2B, through AiM-7M to AA-9 imo?) , ARHs are much much better…
The only reason the AIM-120 isn’t super easy to notch and defeat in the command phase is that F-16 radar tracks will coast for many seconds.
Perhaps some delay in radar track is the reason why ARHs can re-acquire lost targets in Falcon…I dont know…but SARHs go balistic after milisecond, there is no way howto save missile…so if this is the only way to go…
