Red Dog - Request Permission to Alter Korea Map
I have altered your ONC Map of Korea VFR and wish to publish it to BMS forums.
Basically I have removed the navigation and terrain data to simplify it as much
as possible. Then I will overlay a PAK map over this simplified Map.
Here is what I have published so far:
Please let me know if what I have done is accurate to your knowledge and if it is OK to use
your map in this way.
Thanks for all the great work you have done and are doing!

I personally think it would be more useful if you added his navigation data back in. Just my opinion!

What’s the purpose and the specificities of yours?
How do you plan to publish it?
And please define PAK maps? To me pak maps are the small version of the campaign map, not the UI map.
My opinion with duplicates is that it does become confusing when the primary is updated. I hate to have duplicates of my work which might not necessarily follow my update routines because I don’t control them.
It might not sound a problem now, but in 4-6 weeks when I’ll change mine, will you still be there and motivated to change yours? ANd in 8-12 weeks? and in 16-24 weeks…
My goal is to get a better (improved) idea of what Korean air and surface areas the PAK areas cover. The UI PAK map is currently the small version of the campaign map and is good for most pilots. But there are some of us who are also interested in more control of the air and ground strategy. Better PAK area priorities influence the ATO allowing strategists to alter/create air schedules and battalion objectives.
The map is simplified so PAK areas can be identified most easily. So, terrain and most navigation aids will be removed (when doing that, rivers, roads, and some cities have to be retraced). Some text will be enlarged for visibility. Then an outline of PAK map areas will be superimposed over the simplified map. PAK areas are estimated by exporting a Korean primary objective map from Falcas’ Mission Commander. He is OK with that.
The map will be published as a PDF or PNG. Full size for big screen, smaller for print or tablet.
The enlarged PAK map does not replace anything you have done because its purpose is different. This map will not need to be updated unless BMS updates Korean theater primary objectives.
I hope this answers your concerns.
With respect, Vapor.

Thank you Vapor for answering my questions.
No problem on my side, go for it

Complete noob question but what does PAK stand for

I actually like your idea and appreciate you requesting permission from RD. I think that is a great initiative. The only thing I see better is having the option to switch maps in game as they are both very useful.
BMS manual says PAK stands for “route Package”.
See the Map and explanation here: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?30752-Large-PAK-Section-Map-enclosed-Planning-the-Campaign&p=428483#post428483
Ideally it would be great to the PAK area outlines on the Campaign/TE planning maps.
Much like Bullseye that we can turn off and on. You know, right click on the map, and “Show PAK Sections” as an option for the map.
Realistically though, the developers have a long list of programming goals that are going to be more important. Hopefully, this map will
help though: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?30752-Large-PAK-Section-Map-enclosed-Planning-the-Campaign&p=428483#post428483
