Falcon BMS has stopped working error in 64 bit mode on first start fresh installation
-
Please help if you can.
I am brand new to this game. Installed Falcon 4 from steam. Just today installed BMS 4.33 U1, 2 and 3 per instructions from this forum.
Falcon 4 alone will launch no problem. Also, BMS launcher menu window will open but when i select launch it immediately has a windows error at the Tommo splash screen that says
“Falcon BMS has stopped working” and the only option is to close the program.NOTE: it only fails in 64 bit mode. If I select 32 bit mode first, then it launches BMS without issue.
I already tried deleting the dx9display.dsp file as some other posts have suggested, but this does not fix it for me.
Tried completely un-installing and re-installing. No dice.
I assume I would get better performance in 64 bit mode, since my machine/OS is 64 bit and all my other games (i.e. ARMA 3, etc) run in 64 bit mode no problem.
Windows 8.1, I5-4460, 16GB ram, GTX-1060, 1920x1080
There was no crashlog file that i could find, just some Errorsinclasstable and ErrorsinSFX files under logs:
This file is restarted each session

Have you tried running BMS in windowed mode?

The errors in those files are normal, nothing to worry about.
Is it a laptop/notebook, or desktop PC? If it’s the former and you have a bluetooth chip you could try disabling that, as several people have had CTDs in 64-bit only with a specific bluetooth enabled laptop (use the search box in the top right corner to find more information is this could be a factor for you).
Try disabling the Play Intro Movie on Start Up option, using the Configuration tool accessed from the Launcher. It’s in the General folder.
Try running in windowed mode as johku suggested, by adding -window to the end of the Target line in your Shortcut tab.
If none of these work I would suggest uninstalling using Setup.exe and reinstalling in your root or directory. Your current install location is inside several nested folders and some people have found this to be a problem in the past.

Just a quick update: I found the solution.
Windows event viewer gave showed me a clue to a problem dll file.
So then I just deleted the VirtuWatt program (ASUS G20 ROG gaming PC crapware) and it all works fine now in 64 bit.THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!
It was really encouraging to get such fast and thorough advice on this forum for my first try. So instead of me giving up, I may actually now become a long term member of this community.

PS: the offending file in windows event viewer log was:
Faulting module name: lucidd3d9u.dll, version: 3.0.108.30307, time stamp: 0x53de15b6
A bit of googling led me to conclude it is related to VirtuWatt, which I then remembered was causing me trouble on another game a year ago.
It was previously disabled to solve the old problem, but I had never actually uninstalled it until today. -
