Hey Laser,
I think there’s something wrong with the email alert for the site/forum. I checked the forum and found that I still have an account there. I found an older post. So “Maggott” is a valid user and the associated email is “m a t t m e r r i l l at comcast dot ne t” So when I try to re-register it fails with “User and Email already exists”
I also tried to register as a new user “16th_Maggott” and I never received any confirmation. Can you check on that for me?
Thanks,
-Matt
Yeah, that’s what I’ve been thinking too. I ordered the TUSBA R2 the other day. So between all these technologies I should be able to get a decent HOTAS set up.
These days, the programmed mode isnt necessary. If you use DX, you can still have multiple functions on the stick.
If you have ordered a new Warthog, you might consider trying the Warthog stick alongside the Cougar throttle.
Thanks Laser. I’ll get on there ASAP
Hey Maggott! Good to hear from you…
I did not see your name in our “members” section on the forums no sure what going on there??Can you go the forums http://16thaccw.com/BBS/ and re-register?
and I’ll get you going quickly…Hope to see ya soon… Laser
Greetings,
I’ve been trying to get back on the 16th ACCW site, however the password reset thingy isn’t working. If anybody from the 16th ACCW is present please let me know.
My C/S is “Maggott”
Thanks,

Greetings,
I first want to say “Thanks” for this thread. Because of this I got set up from a Cougar HOTAS to a Warthog HOTAS in a matter of minutes. There are a couple of things I’d like to point out that were pain points for me. Only because I was completely new to the WH.
1. "Now launch TARGET and run the TMC profile. Then run BMS. "
This ended up being too vague for me. There were some issues that I wasn’t aware of as well.
I’d recommend the following;
“Now launch Target. In the upper right menu click ‘Run Configuration’. Select the TMC profile and let it run. Watch the output and make sure you see ‘Device renamed Thrustmaster Combined’. During this process Windows may alert you that a reboot is required. If you run BMS and ‘Thrustmaster Combined’ is not available then a reboot may be required.”
2. "Now quit BMS the profile isn’t quite ready yet we still need to configure another file to insure that the profile runs properly. In order to do so we need to navigate back the BMS->User->Config folder and edit a file named Devicsorting.txt "
Recommendation; "Now quit BMS - because the profile isn’t quite ready yet - as we still need to configure another file to insure that the profile runs properly. In order to do so we need to navigate back the BMS->User->Config folder. If you have a current working config with BMS it’s recommend that you make a copy of Devicsorting.txt first. This way you should be able to convert back to your original set up if you want. Such as going back to using a Cougar HOTAS from a Warthog HOTAS. Edit the file named Devicsorting.txt with your favorite editor "
Just my two pennies.
Again, thanks for the effort.

Ah, thanks for that. My concern was giving up the TQS. That’s the real issue that I was grappling with. I don’t fly anything other than an F-16. (When flying BMS.)
Thanks for the input.
Nothing but joy, here…I use a Warthog stick and a Cougar throttle. If your TQS is still holding up you can 1) convert it with a Bodner board; or 2) buy a TUSBA from RealSim. I’ve done both, and both have their easy points and tough points. For one, converting with a Bodner makes your TQS Mac/PC compatible (a WH stick works VERY nicely on a Mac as well). The TUSBA can be a bit fiddly to set up, but once you’ve got it you’ve got it.
I do my key assignments via BMS Setup.
Greetings,
I apologize if this has been asked before. I’m having a hard time sifting through the search noise.
My Cougar may be giving up the ghost. So I ordered a Warthog HOTAS just in case.
My question is; has anybody switched from a Cougar to a Warthog? And if so what was your experience and what were your pain points for your transition?
I appreciate your feedback.
Thanks,
-Matt
Greetings,
My Cougar is nearly 20 years old now and the resistance wheel for the throttle is nearly useless. There’s no resistance at all and can be a tad annoying. I do manage when I start up sometimes to have the throttle midrange. Then the buttkicker kicks in on start and the throttle drops back scaring the pi$$ out of me.
Anyone know offhand if there’s something that can help get more tension on the throttle?
Greetings folks,
I think my poor girl is giving up the ghost. For some reason when I put the Cougar into “Emulated Button/Axis” mode the CCP eventually times out and then the Cougar disconnects. I’ve done the re-flashing multiple times but doesn’t seem to help. Thought I bricked it, but holding the trigger while plugging it in help to recover. (Thank God) I think the JS/Macro files do get downloaded. But of course when I put it into emulated mode is when it fails.
Has anyone encountered something like this and managed to recover?
The way BMS has evolved it seems that the User Mode really isn’t required. So I flashed again, set the axis and recalibrated. Using the DUNC_DX method the stick works just fine. All buttons register as expected and all axis are set up correctly. (Even the Micro Stick is working really well) If I remember correctly when the Cougar first came out (I got one right away) the User Mode was necessary. It was nice have view and other such keyboard requests available on the HOTAS. Such as locking a target then SHIFT/IFF UP doing the AWACS “Declare!”.
I really don’t want to give this girl up. I got the original Gimble Uber mod (Can’t ever remember his name. From Down Under I think) and the Cubby Hol Sensor mod for stick and throttle. So you can imagine how I’m really reluctant to put her down after nearly 20 years. (But I did order a new Warthog HOTAS just in case)
I appreciate anybody’s feedback and suggestions on this.
Thanks,
-Matt
