I believe red and flashing red indicate lock and guidance mode even if the SAM is not targeting you. I’ve seen red and flashing red SAM’s in friendly airspace (Hawks, I believe Patriots too) and there’s no way they were engaging me.

RE: Harm Attack Display colour codes
Yeah I have no idea what green vs grey means either. Maybe grey indicates you have a missile currently heading towards it but I doubt it. I assume green indicates the site is not emitting (Or at least you’re not picking anything up. SAMs in BMS tend to just emit all the time unless certain circumstances occur IIRC)
To be honest I never really understood why firing at yellow emitters work. If you have a SAM site for example, typically there’s a search radar and a tracking radar. If the SAM has not locked on, why do I see the number for the tracking radar lighting up in yellow when AFAIK they typically don’t do search mode? I know S’s are search radar of any type typically. So why do I see a tracking radar emitting in search mode? (Although to be fair I believe some of them can still operate in a search mode of sorts like the Fan Song IRL)
I feel the same way with the RWR. I always have trouble exactly when I’m being locked onto or not. One of Krause’s videos explains SAM search radar typically shows up as the number appearing then disappearing, while tracking radar involves the threat staying on the RWR. This was a video from 2011 so it likely doesn’t apply to 2018 BMS. When I play it feels like I have no idea when the threat locks, (I see the symbol steady. Presumably this is search radar and it’s steady because the RWR has a memory of sorts and only clears the threat after a certain length of time with no emissions detected) only when they launch. I hear the tone change and see the threat move inward on the RWR indicating a surge in signal power but it feels like the window between “lock” and “launch” is very short, less than a second.
No idea if it’s a bug, I’m misinterpeting the RWR, or if SAM operators in BMS are just quick on the trigger once they lock you up. I sort of thought they’d lock onto you and possibly wait for you to get a bit closer before firing, but it seems in BMS once they “commit” to an attack, they lock and fire pretty much immediately.
But yeah the H.A.D. is arcadey, I just wish the documentation was clearer. In the training manual they actually show a SAM search radar as tracking somebody, (S is red) while the number (tracking radar) remains in search mode. No idea what’s going on with how Falcon models SAM sites.
EDIT: Kinda funny the H.A.D. can show missile launch for the SA-10. Makes a good situational awareness aid.

RE: Enemy skill level
Maybe the old F4_RP5_User_Manual.pdf (page:270) … even outdated
might give a hint in the right direction?
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?34549-What-is-the-range-covered-by-the-CBU-bomb-according-to-the-burst-altitude&p=480508&viewfull=1#post480508Cheers, :yo:
LSAyup. I THINK in that manual they mention the “dumber” the SAM crew is the more likely they’ll fire missiles even if they don’t have a solid lock on you, while “smarter” crews try to save missiles until they’re sure it’s actually tracking.

RE: Ff you could have one thing in the next update it would be…
“Toggle” functions for Override modes. Unrealistic I know but not having to bind a “Cancel Override” means you save an extra button and can just have “Press once to enter Dogfight/Medium Range Missile (AMRAAM) Mode, click again to cancel”. Not to mention we have similar toggle functions for stuff like Master Arm, etc.
I think you can do it with TARGET but having it as stock functionality would be better. (TARGET is very user-unfriendly)
The throttle on the T16000m has a “Two Way” button that returns to center, and it’d be perfect for dogfight/mrm override, but since it returns to center the “automatic override cancel” thing won’t really work unless you hold the switch down the entire time, so that means I have to bind another button just for cancelling it. I’m a button-lover and the T16000 is a HOTAS where every single button counts.

RE: Yet Another T.16000M FCS HOTAS Review and Setup
Thinking about it, maybe we could find a configuration that fits most people, with room for individual tweaking nevertheless.
So just out of curiosity, what would you and others consider vital bindings that aren’t on the current one (v3.1)?Questions i had myself:
When do you guys use Radar Cursor Enable? I dont remembr using that ever. I could put Radar Cursor Zero (which i use more often) on that slot instead.
What key commands are used for standard multiplayer voice comms?Note I am a massive nugget and know very little about BMS (I’m waiting to save funds for a T16000 and TrackIR and possibly have to move my desk or get a new one to make room for such, mine’s a rather crappy desk/bookcase thing with my monitor on a stand-thing built in diagonally to the left) but it does have something called IVC which either came with Falcon 4 or was added in BMS, and is a built-in voice chat client of sorts which works ingame. I.E. radio needs to be set to the right frequency, radio degradation modeled etc.
Are the “View Up/Down/Left/Right/” keys just to move your POV and not targeting pod or anything else? If so, with trackIR I might set them (I believe shifted castlehat?) to the COMMS switch up, down, left and right, up and down are used for talking on UHF and VHF, and left and right are used for datalink related stuff.
EDIT: That leaves the radio menus but there’s ways around it I believe such as Voice Attack, so I can just shout “AWACS! REQUEST BOGEY DOPE!” or “Tower, requesting landing.” or “Tanker, done refueling.” whatever and have VA automatically send the needed keypresses. Frees up my hands although my PC is in the living room and people might get irritated hearing some maniac yelling at his PC.
EDIT 2: The game has built in profiles in keybindings folder or whatever for VAC (Voice Activated Commands) which is a different program than Voice Attack, so you’re pretty much all set there. Again I am a bit of a button lover so I try to free up buttons. On a side note for First Trigger Detent (Manual Lasing) do you have to hold the button down or just push it once to toggle the laser?
EDIT 3: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?18261-KEYSPEECH-PROFILES-FOR-ALL-CALLSIGNS!!! another example of a set for voice commands, (keyspeech program) I like having many phrases for each call because if you’re in a hurry you don’t have to worry about phrasing. AWACS request homeplate can be activated with just “AWACS where is my base” or “AWACS vector for RTB” etc.

RE: Yet Another T.16000M FCS HOTAS Review and Setup
Questions about your setup, I noticed you have toggle-jammer as a separate key from the countermeasure hat, isn’t that a bit unneeded because CMS down and CMS right I believe also handles ECM?
Also I read it’s possible to setup TARGET so you can have overrides as just one key, with a short press to enter Dogfight Override (And thus queue up a sidewinder) or a long press for MRM (Basically enter Dogfight but with an AMRAAM instead.) with a second press to disable the overrides. https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?31565-Basic-tips-to-get-the-T16000M-FCS-hotas-working-in-BMS&highlight=t16000m+override mentioned in this post. Seems like another good way to free up button real-estate while still having it intuitive. (Wanna lock up a sidewinder? Short press. Want some more range with the AIM-120? Hold it down a bit longer. Want to cancel? Press it again.)
Just checking in so I can free up more button real-estate, I might modify your setup so I can have pickle as the button below the hat on the front of the stick, and perhaps move first trigger detent to one of the base-stick buttons.
I plan to get the stick as an upgrade to my 3d pro and maybe some trackIR too. Do you like the T16000M? Do you feel like it meets your needs in BMS and you’re not button-strapped?
Only other things I can see “missing” in your setup is the mic keys for MP and the radio keys for talking to the AI (Although you have AWACS Declare as a base button.)
