PS: the offending file in windows event viewer log was:
Faulting module name: lucidd3d9u.dll, version: 3.0.108.30307, time stamp: 0x53de15b6
A bit of googling led me to conclude it is related to VirtuWatt, which I then remembered was causing me trouble on another game a year ago.
It was previously disabled to solve the old problem, but I had never actually uninstalled it until today.

RE: Falcon BMS has stopped working error in 64 bit mode on first start fresh installation
Just a quick update: I found the solution.
Windows event viewer gave showed me a clue to a problem dll file.
So then I just deleted the VirtuWatt program (ASUS G20 ROG gaming PC crapware) and it all works fine now in 64 bit.THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!
It was really encouraging to get such fast and thorough advice on this forum for my first try. So instead of me giving up, I may actually now become a long term member of this community.

Falcon BMS has stopped working error in 64 bit mode on first start fresh installation
Please help if you can.
I am brand new to this game. Installed Falcon 4 from steam. Just today installed BMS 4.33 U1, 2 and 3 per instructions from this forum.
Falcon 4 alone will launch no problem. Also, BMS launcher menu window will open but when i select launch it immediately has a windows error at the Tommo splash screen that says
“Falcon BMS has stopped working” and the only option is to close the program.NOTE: it only fails in 64 bit mode. If I select 32 bit mode first, then it launches BMS without issue.
I already tried deleting the dx9display.dsp file as some other posts have suggested, but this does not fix it for me.
Tried completely un-installing and re-installing. No dice.
I assume I would get better performance in 64 bit mode, since my machine/OS is 64 bit and all my other games (i.e. ARMA 3, etc) run in 64 bit mode no problem.
