RE: BMS Crashes after time spent in flight - Memory Usage warning appears moments before crash - Memory Leak issue?

beating a pretty much a dead horse. Needs more RAM , as conviced by Max and Hawk , case closed.
I’m the one with, possibly, the less computing knowledge here in this aspect, but, how would increasing my RAM stop my pagefile from increasing until a crash? Of course, I have no clue on what’s the actual problem, but doubling my pagefile amount would - I’d think - only allow me to fly for twice as long before a crash, no?
Also, I did not have OBS or any external programs running on these 4.36 flights as possible memory leak causes. Only app running was TeamSpeak, but it didn’t consume any significant RAM and Pagefile size.
Thanks again!

The memory window appeared for a few seconds then Falcon crashed
Do you remember if it also showed 100% (or a ridiculously high number) of Pagefile usage?
Edit: Ah, nevermind, your crashlog does confirm it, showing 5MB of pagefile left, probably the same that’s happening to me.I’ll have to fire up 4.35 again and check how my Pagefile behaves. The only time I had a blue memory warning back then was in day 1 of a campaign, with ground units and air gorilla in the 3D bubble (even other members in the flight reported low FPS), but it DID NOT result in a crash even then.

RE: BMS Crashes after time spent in flight - Memory Usage warning appears moments before crash - Memory Leak issue?
Update from my last multiplayer campaign flight.
Again, it crashed on the way back at approximately 01:40 hours from getting into the pit (3D). I can confirm the crash always happens when Page File gets to 100% (of my total 17.1GB available), showing 0MB left.
I was monitoring total RAM usage, page file (called “commited” in the Task Manager Performance tab), BMS memory commit size and GPU usage.
For reference then:
- Joining 3D: 6.5GB Total RAM | 5.7GB BMS Commit size (note, I did recon both Kunsan and the Target area prior to commiting, increasing RAM usage and Pagefile already)
- At EOR Kunsan (16:20 minutes elapsed): 6.9 Total RAM | 6.1 BMS Commit | 10.1 total Pagefile
- At Rejoin (24 minutes): 7.3 Total RAM | 6.8 BMS Commit (using 2.0 GB GPU)
- 45 minutes: 6.6 Total RAM (so, RAM usage decreased as soon as we left Kunsan, increasing to ~94% at most when GPU usage was way up there) | 8.2 BMS Commit | 13.4 total Pagefile)
- 1 Hour 10 minutes: 10.9 BMS Commit | 14.7 Pagefile
- 1 Hour 15 minutes: 15.2 Pagefile (GPU at 86%), total RAM 6.6
- Approach (01:36:30): 7.1 Total RAM | 13.4 BMS Commit size (didn’t get total pagefile, but was getting the blue message already)
- Crash (01:38:52): at 100% Pagefile (17.1GB)
So, while RAM would vary between 75 - 95% depending on the amount of units and objects nearby, just as GPU would go from ~85% to 100%, the Pagefile kept increasing non-stop (at a possible constant rate?) since I joined 3D.
Should my Pagefile be increasing like this? To be honest, I’m not even completely sure what Pagefile really is and it’s usage, but wouldn’t it be possible to unload whatever is loading it while I’m flying?Otherwise, we are always flying on limited time if it only goes up, being only a matter of time until it definitively crashes based on how much Page File you have available. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions!
Cheers, Archer -

@Dee-Jay The “High Resolution Textures” box is not checked; the Low Resolution for Clouds and Reduce Particle System are checked though.

Thank you all for the replies again.
As soon as I fly again I’ll run the TaskMgr as suggested and update you here.@airtex2019 said in BMS Crashes after time spent in flight - Memory Usage warning appears moments before crash - Memory Leak issue?:
a buggy driver, a virus, some other software, whoknows.
On my last flights I made sure nothing else (but TeamSpeak) was running and memory usage was at the lowest possible. Ran a few antivirus complete scans but nothing was ever found. I might completely format my system and reinstall Falcon soon just to be sure - also, there’s an upgrade to Windows 11 available for me. Compared to Windows 10, does 11 tends to use less memory and be more stable overall for BMS?
@airtex2019 said in BMS Crashes after time spent in flight - Memory Usage warning appears moments before crash - Memory Leak issue?:
But if it’s possible to buy a RAM upgrade for your laptop, to get 16 Gb
I’m not completely sure yet it’s possible to upgrade the RAM on this laptop, but if so I’ll do it pretty soon. Not really in a position to build a proper rig now, but this Laptop seemed pretty stable to run BMS so far (albeit not at the best graphical settings and performance)
Thanks again!

run TaskMgr during a long flight
Will do, thanks for the tips.

2GB may be the “announced VRAM”
It shows Display Memory (VRAM): 2010 MB and Shared Memory: 4036 MB.
Now 2010MB VRAM is simply not enough for BMS anymore?@white_fang said in BMS Crashes after time spent in flight - Memory Usage warning appears moments before crash - Memory Leak issue?:
I’ve never seen pagefile at 100% and that 17GB’s
Any idea on what that means and why it’s using so much?
I’ll tune down everything I can graphics-wise and see if it helps. I’ve already closed every app running in the fore and background (even turning off the antivirus completely) besides anything essential for windows, but it didn’t seem to make any difference.@Arty said in BMS Crashes after time spent in flight - Memory Usage warning appears moments before crash - Memory Leak issue?:
this laptop - system doesn’t “quallify” for BMS running
Sad. Up until the last version of 4.35 I could comfortably run OBS and record at 1080p 60fps while flying 4 hour long flights without ever having a memory issue in this same system. Now suddenly it’s unplayable even with the minimal and only necessary apps running in the background, right after a complete restart?
-
RE: Radio and Intercom volume bug
@Rizwan I’m having this exact same issue since 4.35 - initially thought it was on my end, but apparently not.
After some times passes the volume goes to the maximum value while the in-cockpit knob is at the same position just like you reported, without any time compression involved - this issue is also triggered when switching to an external view. -

System:

-Processor: Intel Core i5-8265U @ 1.60GHz (8 CPUs)
-Memory: 8192MB RAM
-GPU: GeForce MX110 2010MB -
Description:
It appears that 100% of the time I’m getting crashes after about 1:30 to 2:00 hours are spent in a multiplayer flight or “singleplayer” dogfight sessions without restarting BMS.
Seconds before the crash I get a popup message in BMS called “Memory Usage”, it shows how much of my RAM is being used (usually 90% or more), the pagefile in blue (usually 100%) and “texture” in blue followed by “apx 0 MB free”.
Moments after, I start getting small stutters followed by a complete freeze of BMS and a CTD.
My guess is that there’s a memory leak somewhere, slowly consuming all my memory and leading to a crash. I’ve not had this issue until 4.36, being able beforehand to complete 4 hour campaign flights without a crash or the memory usage message appearing.
Notes: I’ve not found a minimum RAM required to run BMS, and while 8GB is far for ideal for proper performance, I don’t think it’s less than enough for Falcon to run without crashes.
Also, I’m running a pretty large bandwidth, with 100000 kb/s for download and 50000 kb/s for upload - could that be a factor in RAM usage? -

RE: [RESOLVED] BMS 4.35.1 - Closes / Crashes after launch
Best not to use any form of AV mate. Sensible browsing with a good browser, some essential plugins and some common sense will spare you a lot of trouble (and of course using win10 for gaming only).
All the best & glad to hear you got it working!
Uwe
Thanks! haha
I’m not a big fan on Antiviruses too, but McAfee had a pretty pretty good deal for a 1 year subscription + VPN, so I thought “why not?” xD -
RE: [RESOLVED] BMS 4.35.1 - Closes / Crashes after launch
Thanks. It does seems like the Antivirus was the issue.
I’ve had to restore the .LOD file once again and put it on the antivirus exclusion list.
For reference, if anyone is having the same issue, just restore any files from BMS folder your antivirus might have quarantined and put the whole folder in the exclusion list! -
[RESOLVED] BMS 4.35.1 - Closes / Crashes after launch
Hey all, running into an odd issue here.
BMS is closing (or crashing but without any error messages) after the launch screen - so I open the launcher, click on “launch”, the “Falcon BMS” launch screen shows up and then it closes without the game itself actually launching.
I’ve had the same problem yesterday, so I reinstalled 4.35.1 and it worked. But after restarting the computer I’m running into this problem again.
For reference:
I’m running:- Windows 10 Home Single Language
- Version 10.0.19042 Build 19042
- System Type x64-based PC
- Processor Intel Core i5-8265U CPU @ 1.60GHz, 1800 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
- Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
- GPU 0: Intel UHD Graphics 620
- GPU 1: NVIDIA GeForce MX110
- Antivirus: McAfee Live Safe (with Windows Defender off)
I have tried:
- Launching BMS as admin
- Launching BMS in compatibility mode (Windows 7 and “Disable fullscreen optimizations”
- Disabling Windows 10’s Xbox game companion / game bar and DVR
Note that McAfee quaratined the “KoreaObj.LOD” file, but when I try restoring it it asks for an overwrite (as I believe Falcon creates another of these files). Anyhow, it didn’t stop me from launching the game yesterday (with this file quarantined), so I don’t believe it is the problem now.
I’ll leave the crash log files in the link below. Thanks!

RE: [4.35] CTD at apparently random times
Need the entire crashlog, not only the .dmp
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?35644-How-to-make-a-bug-report
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?40871-BMSBugs-A-public-third-party-BMS-bugtracker
For some reason my crash log was empty except for the title (so it only had one line, which was the title).

RE: [4.35] CTD at apparently random times
Which is the default, isnt it?
Until ArcherAC3 confirms they have set g_bExportRTTTextures 0 in their cfg file, Id suspect its #4.
Thanks. Everything should be at default as I haven’t changed anything there, but I’ll double check!
-
RE: [4.35] CTD at apparently random times
No one will do anything for you mate. “Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t” , nothing anyone can reasonably think about or test.
I’m not asking anyone to do anything for me, mate xD.
I explained what is happening to my best and, as clearly stated, uploaded the .dmp file since I have no idea how to read it, but I imagine it can lead to the issue.
I stated when it happens (only in 3D and those TEs); the only thing I didn’t mention was that it happened in single player - but it should be evident as most of those TEs are single-ship.
The crash log file was not uploaded because, besides for the title, it’s empty. Thanks anyhow!

[4.35] CTD at apparently random times
Hey all
I’m sometimes getting CTDs while flying (never while joining/exiting 3D, only while IN 3D), and I can’t figure out what’s causing it.
Here’s the .dpm file, if it helps: https://gofile.io/d/mvckzd (I have no idea how to read it neither how to convert it to txt., so I ended up uploading the large dmp. file)
The crash has happened during some of the training TEs, but it doesn’t seem to be limited to any one of them in specific.
I’ve had it twice during the Flameout TE yesterday, both times when reaching Low Key, but today I flew the same TE 3 times and had no crashes. It also happened in the TFR TE close to STPT3 and in the Failures TE, when overflying homeplate (Iwakumi MCAS).Thanks!

RE: Situation Awareness Compass Fullscreen
ArcherAC3,
If you got some time could you file this report here: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?40871-BMSBugs-A-public-third-party-BMS-bugtracker
I don’t have lot’s of time these days to create one, so if you could make this report there, that would be great.
Maybe It can be fixed for those who use this feature a lot.Cheers Obi1
I’ve never posted a bug there, not even sure how it works yet. But if you can’t, I’ll take a look* and try doing it by tomorrow!
-
RE: Situation Awareness Compass Fullscreen
I seem to get it more easily by first speeding up >450 kts and then fast turn and pulling lot’s of G’s.
Cheers Obi1Hahah, I also can’t tell exactly what is triggering this, thought I was going crazy thinking that pulling G’s and accelerating was the cause of it - but it does seems to be.
-
[4.35] SA Bar is also adding a weird compass and Brk / RPM indicators on the screen
By pressing Shift + 3 one can toggle the SA Bar on and off - which is basically an attitude and other indicators that show up at the bottom left of the screen.
I’ve always had it on back in 4.34 since I don’t have a Headtracker so I could easily check my RPM and Spoilers % without having to pan the view around the cockpit, coming in pretty handy.
In 4.35 though, when I toggle it on it also adds (after a few seconds) a weird, huge compass to the mid-top of the screen and BRK / RPM % indicators to the bottom of the screen, massively cluttering the screen.
How do I get only the bottom-left “SA Bar” in 4.35 so it looks just like 4.34?
Here’s two screenshots showing this: https://imgur.com/a/oWCtK0t
