RE: After 25 years, this sim still impresses
@Icer Cheers to that!
I love the unpredictability of the campaign which exists WITHOUT ME EXPENDING ANY EFFORT (I’ll never be a “mission editor guru”)- and the hard lessons it teaches, the reward when the tables turn your way a few days into the war after much sacrifice and hard work.I just got together with old friends for a casual flight - day 1 campaign- and everything was going smooth: TAC turns like a boss, comms were tight. DEAD and a second BARCAP were just arriving on station.
There was a furball out 15 miles in front of -2 and me, and as we broke thru the MAR still hearing no spike tone, we assumed we were safe for a few more seconds… the friendly in front was shot down, I foxed and defended but we were immediately shot down by 2x MiG29A using heaters - turns out they were out of radar missiles.
I’ve never experienced heaters being the first weapon fulcrums employ (expected a spike and R27). Coincidentally there was also a MP bug and none of us were hearing RWR tones. Maybe I forgot to do the aural RWR warning tests (again. getting lazy).
I will say I have given the other sim a chance 4 times in the last 4 years, the 4th time has been recently and I realized why it always let me down before: I wasn’t appreciating what it does well - but it ain’t the F16 and it ain’t the full scale war. And that’s fine with me. Long live BMS!

Testing targeting pod visibility limits. Fun to compare each photo someone posts with @dema 's original 4.37 photos for the striking lighting differences of update 3

Maverick 14 bad weather training modified
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/llkq6rj9f4w8u/Documents
Since 4.35 was released, Maverick missile infrared seekers have a difficult time tracking when even the slightest wisp of fog or cloud obscures the target. This usually prevents a target handoff from the TGP. Consequently, one of Training 14’s original goals – acquiring and attacking two antiaircraft units with Mavericks in a single low level pass - is no longer feasible in it’s original configuration. In this “spinoff” of training 14, I’ve shifted focus to learning how to judge when conditions favor an attack, what to do in the mean time, and avoiding target fixation which can put pilots within range of enemy fire. I wanted to make a more strategy-oriented mission than the original, and I hope I’ve provided thorough guidance on how to accomplish the goals.
The targets are now definitely mobile but can halt their movement, necessitating the use of the FCR in both GMT GM mode. Countermeasures should be used including a mixed chaff/ flare program. The SA-10 nearby now has actual launchers, so it can’t be ignored anymore. This training also includes a likely encounter with enemy air patrols too risky to engage in a ground-attack configured F-16 – but help isn’t far off. Fuel quantity is still an issue, but there is enough for the mission if used efficiently, and refueling options are added for egress.
This mission isn’t meant to replace #14, as there is no bridge attack or TFR used here, but is meant to train effective use of the AGM-65D & G against dispersed, moving vehicles in poor conditions.
Hope it’s fun and helpful to maverick users.
For those who don’t know, unzip the TE files to your BMS\data\campaign folder and the training should show up along with the other saved TEs in the 2D menu.

Firmware upgrade for warthog throttle - fast slew
https://deltasimelectronics.com/pages/install-instructions
I have the delta sims mini stick - excellent upgrade from stock TM part - and now they’ve released a firmware update to bring the axes refresh rate from 10 to 50hz.
It gave me noticeably smoother slewing even in the alt launcher when viewing the axes throughout travel you can see it’s not “chunky” anymore."This is modified version of the original firmware for the TM Warthog throttle.
It removes the firmware averaging for the slew axis, allowing it to run at an increased axis update rate.
From running originally at approximately 10Hz, to full USB HID speed (approx 60-70Hz) to match the other throttle axes.
This gives a smoother and more responsive slew axis.It is compatible with all TM warthog slew upgrades from Delta Simulation Electronics, and should be compatible with any other slew modifications.
The throttle can be returned to the original firmware version at any point." -

@dee-jay can we get a key for “wipe dust off MFDs”?
