Not sure if this belongs here, in the KTO subforum or general chit-chat subforum. I think here given how fundamental Korea is to BMS? But feel free to amend, moderators.

RE: TrackIR Software Update
Two reasons, which may or may not apply to you, and even if it applies, may or may not be important to you ….
(1) Speed throttling with some graphics cards when the TIR software was running is fixed
(2) Previously, when you made the TIR window large than a particular dimensions the graph portion on the left was truncated. Don’t know the exact dimensions off the top of my head, but I know I could not maximize or even get to 2/3 of the screen on my 4K monitor. VERY annoying. That’s been fixed now! -
RE: TrackIR Software Update
well it tells you to do so… so according to general stats and mass behavior you MUST update.
Basic rule. If it works we don’t touch it.
But sometimes it works better? And indeed, it does work better: no more GPU throttling, and, for me, a biggie: full screen on 4K actually works!

RE: Doomed like the Charge of the Light Brigade: How to Solve this Tactical Situation?
Keep posting your progress; me and lots of smarter Falconers here will help as we all learn together. Good luck!
Will do. Looking forward to growing with this for a long time to come!

RE: Doomed like the Charge of the Light Brigade: How to Solve this Tactical Situation?
cptmge,
You are saying “fix the strategy so that I will not be in the hopeless tactical situation” rather than try to figure out a way to solve a hopeless tactical situation. I hear you. Will give it a try!

RE: Doomed like the Charge of the Light Brigade: How to Solve this Tactical Situation?
I’ll give both the IA’s and TE’s a try to ramp up my skills, for sure. But the question still remains, whether in IA/TE/campaign: how to deal with multiple groups roaming around the compass?
I’ll have to look through the flight manual to find the shields and unlimited weapons procedure. I assume it will be controlled from the “Star Trek” MFD page? I’ll know I’ve found it when I hit the page with the LCARS UI

RE: DCS Mirage 2000 politically sensitive question
The DCS A-10C is absolutely, absolutely, absolutely, absolutely, absolutely, amazing on every single count, from flight modeling to systems modeling to immersion! It is my go-to sim when I want the modern A2G experience.
However, there are other modules that are in the same best-of-class class in both authenticity/fidelity and immersion: the P-51D Mustang, FW-190, ME-108, F-86F, Mig-19, the Huey UH1H, the Ka-50, Mig-21, Mi-28 etc.
I recognize that this platforms/systems may not float your boat, but different strokes for different folks and all that. The point is, if you want these platforms/systems/eras, DCS nails it.
Apart from the tactical part, honestly just the pure experience of virtual flying is worth it for any of these modules, for the feel/immersion/skill (low and fast down tree-filled canyons), but the tactical experiences themselves are amazing as long as you accept the contexts (i.e., no taking the P-15D against the Mig-19, or while you can blow up things with the Huey, there is as much enjoyment in just mastery of the flight, navigation, timings, both under and not under fire, etc.)For modern systems management A2A, BMS rules. The DCS A2A environment with its simplified/arcade IFF does not do it for me. One look at your scope and you know who are the bad guys. Couple it with the fact that the AI’s radiate all the time, and you can usually tell the dangerous bad guys from the not-so-dangerous bad guys. Target sorting is an integral part of the A2A challenge, and BMS offers that in spades. The increase in taskload coming to BMS from other DCS A2A simplifications (such as not needing or being able to uncage/cool heater seeker heads) were an eye-opener of me when I learned about. As were the much nastier missiles, both AA and SAM’s!
Shame, because the F-15C is a sweet platform, and the Su-27(30KK/etc.) is easily the most beautiful single-seat fighter aircraft ever built … but I find it difficult to get into them now having started on the path of learning to manage a real A2A radar platform (BMS Falcon).
BUT for me, for A2G stuff, at the moment the DCA A-10C rules! But this is a platform thing rather than a sim/game thing. This is due to the MUCH better ergonomics of the A-10C for this (IMHO), rather than any difference in the DCS/BMS sim. I find the F-16 approach to LGB deployment irritating compared to the A-10. But you want to know what seals the deal for A-10C A2G? One word: “Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt!” Admittedly, once you get away from a permissive environment and stack in significant SAM and opposition aerial threats things get a lot more challenging a lot more quickly in the A-10C than the F-16, but, again, that is more due to platform rather than the sim qualities.
Of course, all this is neither here nor there with respect to the module that is supposedly the focus of this thread, i.e. the M2000C.
I have this module and I love it. But I would agree with those who say not to buy it yet if you are hoping that this will be a module you want to get into immediately. Wait till it is completed, and then see what folks think. The developers have set themselves the goal of a full high-fidelity flight and systems model, and while you will hear rabid/fanatical speculation on both sides on whether they will or will not deliver it, truth is nobody can say till it is done. Right now, in its pre-release state, it is great for WVR guns and short-range heaters against the Mig-21 and flying down canyons. Both are fun, but while the flight and relevant systems are realistically modeled, going up against a Mig-21 in sterile A2A “arenas” using just guns and heaters probably does not qualify as realistic modern combat aviation simulation experience that you might be looking for. For that, stick to BMS. Or the A-10C. Or the Ka-50.

RE: Doomed like the Charge of the Light Brigade: How to Solve this Tactical Situation?
hey Bearfoot, if you want to gain some experience outside of the campaign, use the ACE A-A setting for Instant Action. Sounds like it may be quite close to what your getting in the campaign. Might assist in giving you some muscle memory in the campaign. Have fun.
Hi sortofred, that’s a good idea, and I actually did try quite a few rounds of IA A-A, though not at Ace setting.
Here’s the rub, though. What is missing from the IA A-A is target sorting. And that, for me is the challenge in the A2A domain that BMS offers that is not available in any other sim, including DCS. The first time I stepped into a campaign setting and was faced with a mass of contacts, some friendly, some unfriendly, and some downright rude, was a bit of a shock. Figuring out which contacts to focus on, which to keep an eye on but not deal with immediately, and which can be safely ignored is what I think makes the A2A mission as much as locking up targets and firing off missiles at them. Not saying that doing the latter (successfully) is not a challenge, but coupled with the former takes it to another level!

RE: Auto-record VHS/ACMI
4 files are generated, with 3 being acmi ones.
2 of these acmi files are 1K large and the 3rd contains all the mission data…but without other’s ordnance.
I don’t know if more data is absent, but the data absent as is makes this method lacking, in my opinion.Hmmm … in my case the large one is complete, i.e. the entire mission with all ordnance fired by everyone. I definitely see my missiles flying to and subsequently impacting/missing targets and other missiles impacting ( ) me.

RE: DCS Mirage 2000 politically sensitive question
The flight model is comparable to FSX aircrafts, not a10c or bms quality.
There is room for subjective opinions on how appealing/non-appealing this module is, and you are welcome to them and to share them freely. I respect that!
But the above is objectively, technically, and demonstrably false. I assume/hope it is made out of naiveness rather than maliciousness …

RE: Auto-record VHS/ACMI
For me, it generates multiple files per mission. All but one of these files are truncated, perhaps only limited to release/firing of ordnance as suggested. However, ONE of these files has the entire mission. You can pick out this file because of its size, typically thousands of kB. I ignore the smaller files.

RE: Doomed like the Charge of the Light Brigade: How to Solve this Tactical Situation?
Hi all,
(1) Definitely newbie, and I recognize that there might be easier theatre/campaigns out there. However, none of these others offer a squadron with A2A specialization. The reason for this theatre/campaign choice is because it is the only theatre/campaign combo that offers a squadron with A2A specialization, and I wanted the full A2A experience. My plan is to get into an A2G-dominant campaign later. Right now, I really want to explore A2A. I suppose I could go with another campaign/theatre, and just go for the A2A missions …
(2) SA-10. The CAP station itself is far from a SA-10, or indeed any of the trouble. The problem is getting to the CAP station. Incidentally, as far as I can make out, my flight path seems outside the threat circle of the SA-10 batteries as shown inside the sim and in TacView. However, if I get anywhere above 8-10K alt, I get picked up and taken out by the SA-10. This is clearly seen in TacView. Unfortunately, I don’t have the ACMI of these (short-lived) engagements any more, but it happened frequently enough that I now keep to 4-5K or below. Even then I still sometimes see “10” flash on my RWR, and I have to dive to the deck.
(3) I have one wingman. As one of the crazier of the many options I tried, I have tried sending him (alone) against one group while I go against the other. As might be predicted, this was doubly-suicidal!
(4) It makes sense to modify the steerpoints to avoid known/fixed threats, such as the SAM’s. But it is difficult to avoid the roaming hordes of Su-30/J-11’s with this approach.
(5) Kadena makes sense. Might consider it. Especially since in some iterations of this campaign, the mainland runway gets destroyed, and then there is hours of waiting for it to be repaired with no tasking because nothing can take off …

Doomed like the Charge of the Light Brigade: How to Solve this Tactical Situation?
“Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley’d and thunder’d;”Well, actually more like J-11 to the north, and Su-30’s to the south and west and east …
And more like R-27’s rather than cannon shell. But you get the idea.
The first mission of the Iron Fortress campaign. Korea Strong theater. Ace settings.
A2A BARCAP to the southeast. Even on the runway I pick up the Su-30/J-11 radars pinging me from all quarters. On TacView I see flights buzzing in from the north, south, east, and west. Typically groups of 4-ship. My BARCAP station is to the west. If I take off and turn into the closest threats, and get shot down by one of the other groups behind. If I decide to ignore them and just focus on the mission — take off, hang low and fast and just try to get to the CAP station — I get shot down by another group (typically the flight of 4 J-11’s coming in from the north). If I go very high, I get picked off by a nasty SA-10 battery to the north if the Su’s do not get me first.
Any suggestions/advice/tips?

RE: Why does slewing SOI result in all points slewing across all (non-tracking) systems?
Thanks all, again, for clearing that up!

Why does slewing SOI result in all points slewing across all (non-tracking) systems?
The immediate answer is presumably, “because that is how it works in RL”.
But the question is as much about RL as in the sim. What’s the reasoning/logic/advantage in shifting a steerpoint when I just want to use the TGP to look at something to the left?
The A-10C (at least, as modeled by DCS) seems to me, perhaps naively, more ergonomic.

RE: Auto-record VHS/ACMI
Thanks! I am suitably chastened for insufficient RTFM-ness and appreciative of your extra effort in extracting the info and posting it.

Auto-record VHS/ACMI
Is there any way to get the flight recording (“F”) to auto-start at the beginning of mission? I keep forgetting to start it till halfway through!
