It is such a beautiful thing, ground “jiggle” aside.
I love flying it around.

The sound of the engine spooling down to idle after touchdown is glorious.
I agree with you, the whole thing just sounds sexy to me.
landing vertically in normal cocpkit view is much easier than in external
you lack many visual indicators in ext view
Guess I wanted the challenge? LOL. I will definitely keep practicing from inside the cockpit. I imagine it is a fair bit easier than having to rotate the camera around outside.
It is such an awesome aircraft. I am wondering if there are any squads forming just to do Harrier missions?
Happy Veterans Day to all, and yesterday Happy 240th Birthday to the USMC!
Today I decided to put out a first look at the Harrier (well first for ME). This was spurred on by a thread talking about the lack of startup checklists. I was able to find one (by Zippo and Daisan), and it helped me immensely. Up till yesterday I was just floundering around with the VTOL queen.
I still have a ways to go with it, but I think you might like how my first outing turned out. (spoiler alert: I DID NOT crash!)
Arranged in two parts. Part one is the ramp start tutorial I am contributing to the community…
And Part 2- the rest of the BARCAP flight test, where I waffle on about how much I love the sim, and spout some quick facts about the Harrier I found out… THEN, attempt to land vertically!
Ok here is my shot at a full ramp start tutorial video for the AV-8B Harrier. I think I got it all, and whatever may be fuzzy I added subtitles. Thanks to Daisan for the checklist, that helped IMMENSELY!
That is awesome, thank you for this Massima!
@Red:
No there isn’t anything but a cockpit diagram for the harrier in the Docs\Checklists & Cockpit Diagrams folders
The rampstarts still need to be done. any volonteer? Because it takes a guy who has interest and knowledge in these airplanes
I saw the spanish language video linked above, and thought I could probably do one in english. I can probably get to work on it tomorrow with the help of that checklist located here (two posts above mine actually).
I’ll let you know if and when I am able to complete it tomorrow.
Edit- Video is done and will be live on youtube this evening at 4PM EST. I had to figure out where some things that were missing from the checklist went, but I believe I should have enough of a walkthrough that the average Joe can follow. I will post the link later today. It will be followed up by a second video of my “first look” at the Harrier with commentary at 6PM EST. (basically the rest of the flight after the ramp start)
Thanks for this Agave. This will help me out a lot.
Well I DID say in the video that this was the first combat flight sim I really got into. Back in the day when Falcon 4.0 was the only game in town. So yeah, saying I am sympathetic… is a little bit of an understatement. I have always LOVED this sim, and it is amazing to see that it is still alive and looking more powerful than ever.
