Yes i also noticed that. Although you cannot see joystick buttons in the settings when you press them, they are functional in game.
I am not sure of its reason but maybe thats because i hided all unused keys. You can reverse that process like this:
Open the keyfile with text editor. Press control+H. Paste 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 -2 in the upper box. Paste 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 1 in the lower box. Press ‘change all’ (or something like that). And save the file.

You assaign one button as pinkyshift. And when you hold it and press another button you shift the pressed button.(like shift key on keyboard).

Everything then works right but not my hatswitch on my joystick…

Controller settings/advenced tab/field of view. Did you correctly set that to Joystick hat?

You put the .key file into /User/Config directory. Later goto controller settings ingame and click “load”. Select your keyfile name. cem if you use mine:) And dont make any modifications via controller settings else you can break the key file. Just use a text editör and modify the keyfile itself. Read the “BMS Key File Manual.pdf” file inside
“docs/Key Files & Input” directory. You dont need to know all of it. Copy, paste and search are your friend. If you want to change a hotas button just copy the numbers and paste where you want it. Example:
      SimCursorUp 5 -1 -2 0 0x0 0 “TQS: RDR CURSOR - Up”
That 5 means button 6 (0 is button 1). All other numbers are not important. If you take those numbers and put them under another function that function will be button 6. Thats all. Dont forget to change the older one to “-1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 -2” which means not used. And 256 means shifted button 1, 257 means shifted 2 so on.
All throttle functions are under “======== 2.19 THROTTLE QUADRANT SYSTEM ========” heading.
All stick functions are under “======== 5.11 FLIGHT STICK ========” heading.
Although you can assaign any other functions to hotas.

Keyboard system is different. Look at the keyboard layout files for button codes and read the keyfile manual(at least pages 15-20).

Here is mine. I used “BMS - Blank.key” and build it from there.

I hided the unused keys so you can examine all the used keyboard keys in controller settings easily.
Let me describe the HOTAS keys:

      Flight Stick:
      Button 1: Trigger Second Detent.
      Shifted 1: CMSUp
      Button 2: Pickle
      Shifted 2: CMSLeft
Button 3: HotasPinkyShift (Hold this button to shift other Hotas buttons)
      Button 4: MSL STEP SWITCH
      Shifted 4: Paddle Switch

Hat Switch: Used for panning the view. You can change it if you are using Trackir. I dont.
      Shifted Hat = TMS

      Throttle Quadrant:
Button 5: RDR CURSOR - Left
      Shifted 5: DMSLeft
Button 6: TQS: RDR CURSOR - Up
      Shifted 6: DMSUp
Button 7: TQS: RDR CURSOR - Right
      Shifted 7: DMSRight
Button 8: TQS: RDR CURSOR - Down
      Shifted 8: DMSDown
Button 9: TQS: RDR CURSOR - Cursor Enable
Shifted 9: TQS: ANT ELEV Knob - Tilt Up
Button 10: TQS: MAN RANGE Knob - UNCAGE
Shifted 10: TQS: ANT ELEV Knob - Tilt Down
      Button 11: CMSDown
Shifted 11: TQS: MAN RANGE Knob - Up
      Button 12: CMSRight
Shifted 12: TQS: MAN RANGE Knob - Down

    • RE: Key command for fire laser?

      @Frederf:

Do any other pinkyshift functions get stuck? It is common when people first try to use SimHotasPinkyShift they will bind it to button N but not N+256 so it will never go off.

You said you bound 1stDetent to Ctrl-\ ? Modifier keys can get stuck. Try simply \ or another key without modifier.

I think not. My keyfile is like this:
      SimHotasPinkyShift 2 -1 -2 0 0x0 0 “STICK: PINKY SWITCH (DX SHIFT)”
      SimHotasPinkyShift 258 -1 -2 0 0x0 0 “STICK: PINKY SWITCH (DX SHIFT)”

Though i dont use pinkyshift for triggerdetent:
      SimTriggerSecondDetent 0 -1 -2 0 0x0 0 “STICK: SECOND TRIGGER DETENT”

But now i also tried first detent for firing the laser. It doesnt get stuck but i have to hold it continuosly. Maybe thats the way it actually works. I dont know.
The problem is with the second detent firing. It behaves differently. It works like the way i mentioned in the other posts.

Yes i use pinkyshift. But i dont use first detent for manual firing. I use second detent(but that isnt under pinkyshift). As i understand from the manual both second detent and first detent fires the laser. But maybe there is some difference?

    • RE: Key command for fire laser?

I also have a problem regarding laser fire. Whenever i fire laser manually i cannot stop it later. It fires immediately whenever i designate a target(area or spot). I can only stop it by undesignating or securing the laserm arm switch. But it fires again whenever i arm the switch and designate a target. Automatic laser firing option no longer Works for the rest of the flight. It isnt a big problem but is this normal?
