      I do plan on doing more skins. The only thing is I’m a complete noob at photoshop and the quality isn’t topnotch as I have no idea how to start from a blank template.

      The way I made this one was to take the default skin, clone stamp away all the markings like squadron names etc to make a ‘blank’, then paint over it in multiple layers. I made a few mistakes with this one, the colours don’t match up perfectly and the black is actually a dark blue on the real thing but I couldn’t find a matching colour.

      I’ll probably make a couple more before posting a link and maybe remake VFA-22.

      My first skin.

      Well not a full skin, just painted over the dds file, used the wire frame from the template files as a guide. I have no idea how to start from scratch.

      VFA 22 actually fly the E/F models, I found it easier to paint with on the C model with everything being in one dds.

      Unsupported node type. Landing gears use DOF’s math which are not supported by LE. More models are going to give those errors as updates come. No big deal, LE is almost useless anyway.

      How would I go about adding a new texture set to the F-18s?

      The thread by WaveyDave says to right-click the root node to view the texture list, but I can’t for the F-18s because I get this error.

      I’m guessing until LE is updated then I can only have one texture set for the F-18’s.

      Unless there is alternate software I can use?

      Thanks for the reply. I’ve downloaded the templates and been re-learning photoshop again, its been a while.

      What about adding multiple skins? Like some F16’s have 3 or 4 sets, how would I go about doing that? I’ve been trying to find the tutorial I saw before but I can’t find it again.

      My plan is to create all the skins for the real life carrier wing CVW-17 F18 squadrons currently based on the USS Vinson (VFA-22, 81, 113, 94) (according to wikipedia)

    • "bad Tag number 17" LOD error. Only occurs with F/A-18's

      Hi guys, I’m totally new to skinning but I’d thought I would give it a try but I’m getting some errors. There are a total of 9 similar errors to the one in the screenshot. This happens in both the LE lite and full LE.

      I’ve been reading some guides for skinning which say I need to create a wire frame to start a new skin but I keep getting this error when creating one for the F/A-18s. I am not getting this error for any other aircraft/model.

      A couple of questions

      • Is it necessary to create a wire frame for a new skin or can I edit an existing one and save it as a new dds? I only want to change the F18 tail and squadron numbers (e.g VFA-151 behind the cockpit), but it appears that the whole aircraft is one texture file, unless I’m doing something wrong.
      • How exactly do I add a new texture set to an aircraft? (I saw a tutorial somewhere but can’t seem to find it again)

      It would be cool to communicate with ground units on CAS missions, or at least through AWACS…. like pop smoke and direct. Those enemy infantry units are had to spot on TGP or mk1 zoomed in eyeball 🙂

      That’s about the only thing DCS has that I wish we had.

      Definitely. JTAC would be great.

      Although during CAS missions I’ve had AWACS tell me to attack other targets which they gave me the Bulls/distance to. There is a FAC mission role that you can add to CAS packages but I’ve never tried that.

      I’ve been an addict to carrier ops, It was just annoying with the same callsigns but ah well, nothing I can do. I hope we see some more callsigns in the future then.

      YES.

      Try it out, even if it takes for a few flights, it will revert to Sting and Hornet.

      Let me make sure I’m understanding this right.

      When a F18 flight is created the game can only choose between Hornet or Sting callsigns and there is no way to change, add to or edit this? - I don’t mean after the flight is created.

      I would like to be able to edit it so it can choose from 3 or 4 but I guess that’s not possible and i’ll need to use MC every time.
