Hmmm reading all those and new dcs members kinda verifying it… Makes one wonder about why the 1st sqdrn changed from BMS to DCS as their main platform.
Not that it really matters but they seemed to be deeply on the sim thing and one would believe that they would consider all those mentioned factors. They were USA members mostly as it was assumed, so the m2k wouldn’t be a reason, so that leaves us with the f-15 and the newcomer f-18.
Also as long as I recall they must be the one and only that made that transition.
There were and are others that from the start were flying both or they were open to use both if members wanted, but I can’t recall any other BMS dedicated that switched to DCS.

Both sims have their strengths. Neither are better or worse, just different. Don’t want to get into a debate about it because I won’t convince you nor do I want to. As long as you are enjoying your sim of choice that’s all that matters.

Our reason was after 10 years our group needed a change. Simple as that. It had nothing to do with graphics though lol. And I still think BMS is an amazing sim. That hasn’t changed.

This Coming Sunday’s test will be held on the Battle For Balkans 1.3.2. This test will determine if you can host a Force On Force event or not so fingers crossed. I’d like to see a lot of guys fly in this event. This event will have to option to fly either Red Or Blue side just like we did in TvT EZ3. Please Note the red side has human flyable MiG-29 as well.

Only change from the 1.3.1 to 1.3.2 is we added AGM-88 to all F-16s. Test start’s at 1600GMT.

Yep. 4.33 and JanHas F-16 and hangar. It’s looking through my jet’s block 40 HUD which explains the tint and the big white stripe across the bottom of the picture.

FAC training - Dough Boy and NikNak trying 9-lines for the first time in the first training sortie. Only interesting if you are into comms/CAS procedures - not much action. Doing another the “ground school” presentation on these procedures again next week (one weeknight and once on the weekend). If you want to come on our TS and participate, send me a PM and I’ll give you the info. You don’t have to be a 1st VFW member.

We are an international group of like minded individuals that push the F4:BMS simulator to the boundaries of realism for which it was intended. From our extensive training programs and coordinated events, to our relentless pursuit of becoming better BMS pilots, the 1st VFW is built for the BMS pilot looking to be challenged while still having fun doing it.

We’ve worked hard over the past 9 years to create a “close to real life” atmosphere while still vying to maintain the fun aspects of simply enjoying a simulation title among friends. As one of the most active groups in the community, we host 5 weekly flights every week at different times to accommodate members in different timezones. I know of at least one real world F-16 pilot that offered to help improve the avionics and bring them closer to what is actually in the jet and he was more or less ignored. To put it bluntly, they don’t want our help.

There are things in recent BMS updates that came from feedback from real world F-16 pilots. The CZ highlighting when you move your cursor is one that comes to mind but I know there are more. There’s a list of things provided from real world F-16 guys around avionics (non-classified of course) - the team just hasn’t got to them all yet. It’s not from a lack of having the information.

Footage from a training exercise where I did AWACS for the guys and Fulcrum did tower. Since I wasn’t in 3D in the cockpit watching the guys depart/recover as AWACS, I used some stock footage here and there. I doubt anyone wants to watch all 52 mins of comms and the UI map, but here you go.

If you ever do AWACS from the UI, turn on the object labels. I forgot to do it for the first half of the flight and it made it a lot more difficult. Also, I recommend using a custom VHF for the F2 key so you have two freqs you can use.
