@Atlas Been over 7 years since I did a build myself but IIRC, when you use DX you’re limited to 32. When you use a matrix with keystrokes assigned, you can add way more inputs on one board.

@Stevie thanks! I have a couple of the Avi-8 timepieces, really like them.

Think I found it.
Looking back at my screenshots I noticed the 5GHz- 130Mbps next to the wifi logo. It used to say a lot higher Mbps. So I pulled out the entire usb-c to ethernet adapter and noticed VD was still working in the settings as in the screenshot.
So I’m guessing the entire adapter is broken and it switched back to wifi instead of actual ethernet connection/speeds; as wifi isn’t the best around here, that might be giving insufficient bitrates while the fixed 100Mbs setting is then having issues.Suspicion confirmed. Ordered & tested a new adapter and now power & signal are coming through. Solid 90 FPS without budging. Happy camper.

@Skorp Thanks. Love this thing.
If I ever stop simming, it will become my desktop chair -
RE: Pics of your flight setup / home cockpit
@b0bl00i information for plans etc were found over 10 years ago on viperpits.org, don’t have them anymore though.
Yes, regular Thrusmaster MFD bezels.
Yes, 4 different screens used in the pit part. 1x 10" for RWR & left MFD; 1x 10" for center console; 1x 10" for FFI, ADI & right MFD; 1x 4" for EHSI. -

@oleuzop hmm, could be. Let’s hope a new update comes soon so I can rule that out or find out it’s fixed.

SteamVR lag & stuttering
Running any game in 3D non VR is butter smooth.
Running Virtual Desktop in Pico4 runs smooth as well.
But since this week when I start SteamVR, it’s choppy. Stuttering, lagging, frame drops…3 screenshots during a dogfight session in BMS, moving my head from left to right I’m getting major latency & frame drops.
Any idea what is going on?Any idea what’s causing this? I’ve tried about all fixes I could find in Google but none seem to work.
PC specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- MoBo: X670 gamin x AX
- GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB Ventus 3X OC D6X
- SSD: Samsung 980 Pro 2 2TB
- RAM: G.Skill 64 GB DDR5-6000 Trident
- VR: Pico4
All drivers are up-to-date;
Pico connected via dedicated router & switch with like thisNVidia settings:
- all default except
- set to max performance where possible
- prerendervr frames: 1
BMS settings:
- latest version,
- all set to max,
- I’m getting over 400FPS in regular 3D and was getting solid stable 90FPS in VR up till last week. So doubt it’s BMS related.
Virtual Desktop settings
- fixed bitrate 100MBPS (performance overlay says I can have 130)
- Godlike graphics
- 90FPS (also tried 72 fps but no difference)
SteamVR settings (tried original latest version and now latest beta version)
- 100% image resolution
Other settings:
- Steam processes set to higher priority
- Audio only send to headset

RE: Thrustmaster TQS LED
@r00t Maybe someone can ask the developer of F4toPokeys to make a fork? That little piece of software works like a charm reading BMS shared memory data and lets you map it to pokeys digital outputs. Since the BMS data is already using the correct delays, there’s no need for additional manual coding or workarounds for that.
If you could specify not only a pokeys board but also command the Trustmaster box with it… -
RE: Passtrough is zoomed?
@Sabre No nothing found yet
Yeah. High is ‘ok’ for casual flights but not nearly as sharp as in godlike. BMS VR in godlike is great, everything is readable without having to lean forward or use zoom function. But in high it’s required to read mfd information etc.
But then again, if the passthrough would work, I would be able to see my actual MFD’s. -
RE: Passtrough is zoomed?
@Fish44 lastest version of Virtual Desktop allows for passthrough.
It’s only available up till VR graphic quality settings ‘high’ and below (not ultra & godlike). Then on the same streaming settings page on the bottom, under sharpening, you can enable passthrough and configure it.
I configure it to pure black, first slider 1% second slider 5%.
Then in BMS I define the empty 3D shell in my keyfile. This will toggle an empty 3D pit I already use when I’m using the simpit. The empty shell is black. So in VR 3D, the black shell gets replaced by what the passthrough camera’s see. -
Passtrough is zoomed?
Any idea how you can edit the zoom level of the passthrough camera?
Been trying Virtual Desktop with the mixed reality and having issues that the image I’m seeing is larger than reality.
First I thought it was an issue with VD or Steam VR settings. But it seems to be Pico related as I also get it when tapping the headset twice to switch between VR & passthrough , even when running wireless in a standalone game.
This way I’m not getting the actual reality of what’s in front of me inside the masked part when switching to empty shell in BMS 3D. -
RE: How to use "Virtual Desktop" with Pico 4 when not able to use WiFi?
@SebastianR what version is that? Cause I don’t see any available updates and the image in the headset is far less good then the monitor version, even when all SA settings are at the highest.

RE: Mixed reality proof of concept and new Virtual Desktop with passthrough mask
@Aragorn in a nutshell, what you see in the video is a recording from inside his VR set.
Some VR headsets have cameras that allow you to film the real environment and show that in your headset.
Virtual Desktop is an app you run on your pc and your VR headset to stream your desktop or game to your VR set.
Since an update of VD, it allows to set a ‘mask’ for pass through. Compare it with a green screen for video effects. VD will stream the game/pc graphics by default (in this case, BMS in VR), and everything that has a certain defined color (green, pink, whatever you set), it will not show the game on that location but will pass through the video image the cameras on you headset capture.
That way you create an immersive mixed reality. You see everything in your VR headset but what you see is a mix of pc/game footage and surroundings camera footage. -
RE: What to do after training missions?
@Micro_440th said in What to do after training missions?:
Congrats you made it through!
If you wanna learn more, get into multiplayer to meet other people and fly/learn from them. Flying with humans will enhance your BMS experience for sure.
All other suggestions are great as well.
This.
You learn faster with others and the immersion/fun level is way higher when flying with other humans. -
RE: Virtual crew chief
@Nightflyer said in Virtual crew chief:
When he checks the trimm the chief response what trimming he see on the jet for exampel
I highly doubt that.
As far as I can see it’s just one sound file for trim, playing in sync with what he’s doing in his pit. If he would do the order differently or slower/faster; the audio would just be out of sync; no sign of any link between DCS logic and VA responses.@Kavelenko said in Virtual crew chief:
Nah they’re cleverly timed .mp3 voice files. For the “Ready for Start 2” command it plays two voice files 75 seconds apart. Sounds great!
This.

RE: Virtual crew chief
@Ricky said in Virtual crew chief:
But isn’t he also reading some states of the plane? Like the position of the control surfaces, the brakes, the nozzle, etc.
Nope, I downloaded the profile and looked at the sound files.
If anything goes wrong on the ramp start (i.e. hot start & engine fire) or you don’t follow his exact order (wiggling brakes and stopping, or the trim check order), the respons won’t match what you are experiencing or doing
So it can be used in BMS as well, as long as you don’t mess up the startup and follow brakes/trim checks in the same order as the crew chief replies.
