@PRNDL I have been using VKB NXT for over 2.5 years without any problems. Accurate, functional and worth every dollar spent on it. This is literally the most cost-effective option on the market.

    • RE: Something more informations for using CBU?

@tdr in short: all SFW are garbage. Forget about them.

The only good cluster is the CBU-87 or CBU-103 (or JSOW) with a BA of 3000 feet. It can destroy up to 2 platoons in a battalion, just like the Mk 84, but in terms of “pylon effectiveness” these CBUs are better. So 4 platoons per pylon instead of just 2 for the Mk 84 and its “smart” alternatives, but you lose the ability to hit moving targets and gain drag index.

And remember: if you mix any weapon with a WCMD CBU (like Mk 82 with CBU-103), change the burst altitude on the Mk 82 CNTL page, forget about the WCMD settings.

    • RE: Chaff / FCR question

@Sabre no, pulse-doppler and CW radars are immune to chaff and ground clutter. Once dropped, the chaff quickly loses speed and is rejected by filters.

Technically, chaff clouds can be seen in Up-Look Search mode (i. e. pulse only), but ULS is not implemented in BMS.

    • RE: Saitek X65F & BMS Alternative Launcher

@dawgboy NXT is a stick, not a throttle, but VKB released the STECS throttle about six month ago. While there are “finger lifts”, they are more like triggers, with one trigger on each side of each grip.

      Without many words:

@coyotte all I can recommend is to extend the air brakes a bit. This is is really helpful with the F-15.

    • RE: Barlock RADAR...but where/why??

@Tiger-0 Static objects can also emit. SA-5 sites usually have a radio altimeter which the RWR identifies as a Fan Song, the same logic can be with static radars. HTS can detect more radar bands than RWR (eg Spoon Rest) , and triangulation of emitting objects may not be as accurate.

    • RE: Customizing a new campaign

      @SoBad

If I initially set up very unbalanced forces favoring the red side, does BMS accomplish this by adding extra air/ground units to the red side, or taking away air/ground units from the blue side, or both, or… ???

The force ratio slider in BMS does absolutely nothing. Battalions cannot be summoned out of nowhere or produced in factories; this slider only affects the number of units in battalions and squadrons, but as I said, it doesn’t work.

    • RE: AGM-154A - Bomb or CBU effect confusion

@airtex2019 in BMS does not matter since cluster submunitions are not modeled.

unless something regressed in U5/U6 … and haven’t heard of any such reports

Eh? For JSOW-A, nothing has changed in U5, only CBU-97/105 were affected.

    • RE: AGM-154A - Bomb or CBU effect confusion

@Grimberno yes, of course. In this case, it is better to take the CBU-103 or GBU-39, either in terms of damage or range.

    • RE: AGM-154A - Bomb or CBU effect confusion

@Grimberno the AGM-154 burst altitude (EGEA) is MSL and cannot exceed ~2500 feet. And if the target altitude is around 0, then one JSOW-A (2500 EGEA) can destroy up to 2 platoons, so its blast radius is definitely larger. The only difference between JSOW-A and other CBUs is BA and EGEA; the first is always AGL and the second is MSL.

Whenever you use “cluster” munitions in BMS, you should set BA to around 2500-3000 feet.
