Dragon completely missed the point so let me reiterate it…you can still have a load of fun using a force sensing stick on aircraft that never had such in the first place

RE: General HOTAS advice
@oakdesign- I truly hope that worked out good for you but a simple hall effect mod and stiffer spring doesnt make up for a poorly designed gimbal. Try a virpil or vkb and come back to this

RE: General HOTAS advice
I dont understand where people get the automatic assumption that force sensing sticks are exclusive only to f16 (or fbw). Ive flown with x65 since it was released and have no issues flying precision maneuvers with traditional aircraft like ww2 and helos alike. As long as u have a concept of trim then its more than adequate for most everything. From my personal experience, you will have a frustrating time with X52/55/56/or warthog doing precision flying. Sometimes i might come off as a troll on these forums because i rear my ugly head to reiterate this repeatedly and sound like a broken record, but its because ive flown in wings with countless people who buy those junk sticks thinking theyre great mid level sticks only to quickly get frustrated and quit altogether because they dont think they have what it takes to AAR for example, when its really more to do with crummy hardware they have to contend with (yes, those sticks are THAT BAD). Not saying that with a butt load of practice it cant be achieved with these toys, people even do it on gamepads, but i recommend doing yourself a favor and saving the headache. You dont have to spend extra money either to get good quality. Fighterstick, t16000 and warbrd are all far superior choices if u cant find an x65

RE: CH HOTAS
I used the fighterstick for years, and as far as moving sticks you wont get a better unless you get maybe expensive VKB. Its got a longer throw than any of the other mainstream stick which leads to better precision. I “temporarily” moved to a warthog, and after trying so long to like it i would take ch over it every time. Ive since moved on to a force stick and will never go back to something moving, but if thats your thing then imo ch is top notch

RE: Why go for the merge?
What happens when the enemy flies same aircraft as you? Is TGP enough to be sure before the merge?

RE: Devs real question
when your resolution gives you a quarter mile tally range, you have to start recognising that the resolution is too low.
I used to play AF @ 1280x1024 and don’t remember having problems with tally. In DCS, I can actually spot things easier in VR (although still abysmal) than on a 32" 1080p, and I can spot things way easier in BMS @ 1080p than I can in DCS @ 4k. I think the game engine has more to do with tally than does res. Besides, they already have higher res versions coming out.

Did somebody mention Coco? Where the hell is that guy?

RE: Is it possible to get tobii eye tracker 4C support ?
Have you tried facetracknoir or opentrack? I think they can take the tobii signal and convert it to a trackir output that falcon can recognize. Probably your best bet

RE: Air-to-Air Radar Troubles
You should not have to use the spotlight azimuth just to find most standard targets. From my experience most guys have problems because they dont understand that the max/min altitudes it shows on the fcr is dependant on the cursors placement on the scope. Also changing “range” only changes the scale on the scope, it does nothing to change how the radar itself operates and will not effect when contacts are established

RE: 'U' symbol on the HAD screen
I thought Shilka is actually A. Maybe there was A near U?
A little thread hijack. Does anybody knows when aerial radars shows up on HAD? I seen multiple times aerial radars (with ^ above). But it seems to be rare, most of enemy fighters do not appear on HAD, they only appear on RWR.
Huh? I had no idea it had this capability. What happens when you try to lock one up and fire a harm?

RE: Military comms: VHF / UHF
This is something ive always wondered also. As falcon is begining to model the limitations of the radio ranges, it seems to make sense victor would be more used for tactical comms. I suppose better encryption would be a good explanation as to why not. Im interested to know what the ranges modeled for the ivc in falcon actually are, like when each channel starts to break up, and when they become completely not understandable. Are those ranges modeled different for vhf and uhf?

RE: X65 open stick pictures?
I don’t have pics as I opened mine up awhile ago but I can tell you it’s not any more difficult than any other stick ive opened up. The force sensing part is just an enclosed cylinder base with wires coming out from what I recall. The hard part was keeping the wiring stuff intact when I separated the stick halves, but again not really any different than others I’ve seen. I had same problem with pickle and ended up gluing a thin piece of plastic between the button and contact

RE: Comparing low-end to high-end joysticks
Op made a great decision going with t16000m. I couldn’t recommend it more, even for a seasoned pilot (its still my stick of choice for helis). When I first got my warthog after using the t16000, i thought, “are you effing kidding me?”. Sure, it looked cool and was an exact replica of f16/a10, but my god the sticktion was atrocious! How they can let this thing go out into the wild like that is unbelievable, and Ive tried more than one. While the 16000 was like a hot knife through butter, the hog was like driving a car with the brakes locked up. Even after doing all the tricks I could find like relubricating, polishing the internals, it still sits in my closet collecting dust. Do not ever buy it unless you plan to mod the crap outta it or slap in an fssb. Same goes for cougar. As for saitek, aside from the x65f (which is my fav stick of all time), they are all terrible as well. Dont get anything from saitek that moves. They have an awefully engineered centering mechanism with a spring that pushes against an inverted flanged disk thingymajig. They use it on every moving stick they make and its terrible, stay away. Once you want an upgrade, go for VKB or CH (I know alot of people say CH is a toy but its not. Very good stick with a long throw giving it great precision).

RE: BMS versus freefalcon6
If your ultimate goal is to be proficient in BMS, then definitely stick to BMS. Freefalcon is not as complete a sim and as such will have you learning bad habits, which you will have to unlearn eventually. Like Arty said, you can dial down the realism and learn one thing at a time. However if your goal is to jump in the cockpit and start blowing stuff up, BMS probably isnt your cup of tea, but neither is freefalcon really

RE: What am I doin' wrong, nothing on my fcr
This is only true to a certain extent in the SIM. Actual RF is not modeled, so technically by changing the scale, you really are changing the range. Semantics really, since A: he got it working, and B: your description is spot on for RL. The advantage to bringing the scale in though, in this context, is that moving the cursor across the FCR yields smaller changes in where the picture is “looking” in the lower scales. Easier for him to troubleshoot when he was still having issues because the min/max scan altitude would not vary as much inside a 5mi window.
So then does this also mean RWR detection ranges will vary against enemy aircraft depending on their FCR scale settings?

RE: What am I doin' wrong, nothing on my fcr
No, you dont uncage radar. Most likely problem OP is having is not quite understanding how the radar works. At closer than 5 miles you’re best off using the ACM modes like he was doing originally in DF override. Further out, its important to understand you dont actually change the range at which it scans, just the scale of the B SCOPE, the radar always scans out to max regardless. Where you place the cursor on the scope will tell you the altitude brackets at which you’re scanning at the position of the cursor. For example, if you set your scale to 80mi, and put the cursor all the way to the top, thats what youre scanning at 80mi, however move the cursor half way down the scope, and thats the altitudes you’re scanning at 40mi. Move it a quarter way down and thats 60mi and so on. Notice min/max scan altitudes will change depending on where you place the cursor vertically due to the fact the radar sweep increases the further out you go and vice versa.
