RE: 3DPIT WISHLIST
“The bite-covered troll rises from the dead.”
Must be one of my favourite messages from “nethack”, the timeless rogue-like RPG
I have to admit though I upvoted the “gripen” post waaay up there before I noted its age

RE: EMF 4.37 U3 BUG - No Wings on F-16
Could be a problem with the cockpit model used? Which f-16 are you using exactly?

RE: Winwing stamina over time.
I’ve been using the Orion II with F-16EX grip since November and I really like it. The only “shortcoming” so far is that compared to the Warthog HOTAS TQS I used before, the entire thing is too light and I have to fasten it to the desk using velcro (the suction caps won’t cut it and and I cannot mount it in its location permanently).
Even with velcro it’s always a bit “wobbly” and doesn’t provide as solid as a feeling as the Warthog, but I can live with that

RE: BMS Installation Issues and Errors - Can't Update/Can't MP
Anti-virus is just windows defender. I have the install location as an exception.
Can you maybe try adding the download folder where you store the BMS files as an exception as well, or turn off defender altogether during download & installation?

This project / update completely slipped by me for some reason… looks amazing, thanks for your hard work @Scorpion82!

RE: Request of Ebook version of manuals
Give calibre a try, it’ll convert PDF to more or less any ebook format available out there. It’s free, open source and available for all major platforms and then some (Linux, Mac, windows).

RE: F117 don't drop bombs.
Were you flying along in 3d or did you watch / follow the mission on the 2d map?
EDIT: I just tried a quick TE in KTO with 2xGBU-31s for a 2-ship of F117s, no issues in 2d with engaging and disabling their target (Haeju Shipyard port in this example).

RE: HUD display with DelanClip
To be clear you can set your default FOV (and its range) in Falcon BMS.cfg or even better in Falcon BMS User.cfg (which won’t get overwritten by updates hopefully).
Just experiment with some values until you find the right one for you. Also make sure to map the “freeze tracking” and “reset center” functions to a convienent key and / or button as they’re very useful.
You can also adjust the seat position up / down while in 3d which helps with HUD visibility as well.
Another setting to consider is the “Z axis”, you can use it for “zoom” (some consider this cheating as it provides a nice binoculars effect esp. on ground targets) or “z movement” back and forth in the cockpit. Take your time to get comfortable with head tracking, it takes a while to be sure. Also play with the axis mappings / responses / curves in OpenTrack.
All the best,
Uwe

RE: [SOLVED] Winwing Orion 2 on Linux... only 80 buttons detected
I’m not into VR, I like my rig power-saving and quiet
Actually I’m waiting for the “matrix”-style neck plug.

compiled & tested the module, works beautifully. You’ll need to recompile it each time the kernel is updated for now, but it’s no biggie and really easy to do.

RE: Planes spawning in super late
To add to Max’s answer: There is no need to follow the waypoints. Just turn right or left about 90 degs and plenty of bombers should be visible. Once you’ve finished them off, waves of progressively harder opponents will be thrown in your general direction.
I’ve yet to make it past the MiG-21s
Welcome to BMS & enjoy the ride!

RE: New TrackIR mount
I’d probably be up for one as well, provided it will also fit the ps / eye cam I use with Opentrack and that shipping won’t be from the UK (since Brexit it’s a bloody nightmare to receive even “gifted items” from there as they tend to get stuck in customs for weeks
Right now I’m using some velcro to mount the ps/eye on the top of my 42" tv, so some adjustability would be really nice. Great job folks!

RE: TrackIR and widescreen
Give opentrack a try. It has more options than you could wish for and it’s also easy to configure, especially w/r to axis shaping.
I also got a winwing orion 2 throttle recently and mapped the two “clicky” buttons on the bottom of the F-16EX grip to “opentrack freeze toggle” and “opentrack re-center” which works lovely as I don’t have to take my hand off the throttle for these functions.
I also added some FoxVox voice commands to achieve the same functions using voice input.

Wohoo! Looks like there is a more elegant solution than recompiling the Linux kernel with patched headers.
I haven’t tested the module yet, but will do so the next time I’m booted into Linux.

RE: [SOLVED] Winwing Orion 2 on Linux... only 80 buttons detected
thanks, that’s the exact patch I was pointed to by the xplane Linux guys.
While I’ve compiled many a kernel from source back in the days (early 2000s), I tried two methods with kernel 5.15.0-91 (basis for Linux Mint 21 right now I think):
-
compile from source using a .config file from the Mint kernel: Worked, but resulted in a 800MB initrd which would not fit on my /boot partition alongside other (rescue-) kernels and initrds.
-
compile from source package using apt source, fakeroot and friends: Documentation is hopelessly outdated (wiki refers to disco dingo :-P) and while I got the kernel / module compile to work, the process broke on some weird tool called “turbostat” which was missing a header file and which I had never heard about in conjunction with compiling a Linux kernel from source.
So if anyone here has managed to build a debian / ubuntu / mint kernel the “official” way using the source packages, I’d be very happy to hear from them and thest the kernel with the increased button number limit. (only two header files need patching apparently).
Thanks,
Uwe

RE: [SOLVED] Winwing Orion 2 on Linux... only 80 buttons detected
@Ferde no worries, I’ll keep looking. I’ve also opened a thread over at the xplane 12 forums (the title officially supports Linux), so if I find a solution, I’ll let you guys know here as well.

Uwe

Yep, I’ve tried evtest, same result. All buttons beyond number 80 don’t register as inputs in evtest, either.

[SOLVED] Winwing Orion 2 on Linux... only 80 buttons detected
Hi folks,
on the Linux side of things, my winwing orion 2 with the f-16 grip seems to have only 80 buttons available. Has anyone else seen this and might be able to help with a workaround?
Thanks,
Uwe
