RE: A golden era ahead for BMS
@Atlas Well, I won’t lie and I have nothing to hide as I already said it all in the past.
I have nothing against DCS as a flight sim, I have only complains about those that lead it. ED - I don’t like them. I think their way of work is EXACTLY the opposite of what we do here, and that’s why I don’t like them.I think ED way of a work is a lie, a fraud, they promise things that they know they can NEVER achieve and yet they sell dreams to the public. That is what I think and nothing will change that. Dynamic campaign? Yea they can tell those stories to the public who maybe choose to believe in fantasy, but not to me
About DCS? Well I think DCS has a lot of very nice stuff, GFX of course, the full simulation of many different platforms, helos included. Without getting into the EA state of modules etc (Which is a big deal, HUGE deal actually, if you are a customer, I’m not of course).
DCS has potential, but ED instead of investing to depth into each module, not leave it until 100% done, they try to catch a wider pool of customers and so they jump from one module to another and keep spreading bullshit ideas about Dynamic campaigns (We will see…)
That’s the whole story from my POV. DCS is a nice sandbox eventually, it’s a CAS sim in a world full of very high details, but eventually it’s dead because GFX isn’t the face of everything, it sells yes and 4.38 will prove that as well, but it’s not as deep as gameplay is for a combat flight sim, apparently
Regarding the debate/discussion here - Well don’t be bothered by me, I mostly just came here for the joke I mentioned above, not for a real discussion. Most people using BMS and DCS do not have a real idea of how HUGE is the gap in gameplay between the 2

Everyone quoting me acting like I’m defending DCS or on their side, I’m not.
OK that’s it! Stop defending DCS!
(Just joking )
Don’t get too far with debates guys, it’s not worth it. You see how many DCS players are joining in yes? You will see many more when 4.38 will be released
Cheers!

RE: VDXR With bms
Hi,
BMS doesn’t support OpenXR yet, but it’ll come with the upcoming (Hopefully not too long now) 4.37 U4.
I confirm that VDXR does work great with BMS, so it’s just a wait until U4 is released to the public.Cheers!

RE: what's everyone's FPS on Campaigns for those who are on a RTX 40 series card?
@john1974 - In order to measure FPS for a purpose that means anything, when we want to do that internally, we either use the Benchmark TE or we create a different “custom” TE for the specific purpose of the test. So generally I suggest to use one of the 2 options mentioned above and ask users how many FPS they get at different angles/looks. That would be a benchmark test that makes sense.
Cheers!

@Manos1981 my friend, congrats on the huge work done here and on other models! We couldn’t ask for better!

Dear Stefano! Your work is amazing and used by 1000s of people! Like the F-15 cockpit I’m sure this will one day be used in a fully functional simulation of the Tornado!

RE: Ram ?
I recommend 32GB for the future as well. If you have 64GB then great but BMS won’t use most of it.

RE: Physical MFD and ICP vs handtracking vs mouse only with VR
@williang83 Yes. I don’t really “fly” in last years, as even my fun flights are more of a “Let’s see where we stand” kind of, but the last time I tried campaign flights it was ~2 months ago and I ran ~4 missions all in VR yes. The ICP itself wasn’t part of those flights because I didn’t received it at that time, but when I tried it, it was working good enough for me “blindly”. For sure WAY better than using the mouse

RE: Physical MFD and ICP vs handtracking vs mouse only with VR
I tried once with ICP and it was working fine. Of course not as comfortable as seeing everything but it wasn’t bad. Besides that, the Pico4 headset passthrough is good enough for seeing what I do with the ICP so I can also use that by shortly getting out and then back in.

Well. If I consider BMS is a free product. What about making the developement process also free?
But I know it is not what I decide. Programming resources a very valuable one and I guess we need them elsewhere. Otherwise we would have a Blender exporter already.Blender exporter is coming…

RE: Rypley's Hangar
@Xeno said in Rypley's Hangar:
@I-Hawk is tri-count stated below within a limits for 4.37.u and 4.38?
@Rypley said in Rypley's Hangar:
[…]Tri count for both Consoles (the only thing I’ve gotten done since the start of the remodelling process, og cockpit with 80% done was around 120k) is roughly 15k, I’ll have to get back to you on exact numbers a little later today.
…And no, I haven’t touched any normals as of now, but figuring blender allows me to bake normals from meshes, I’ll start creating iterations of switches and what not in very high detail, uv unwrap bake the normals, take em and drop them on a final much lower poly version and then instance those object to avoid unnecessary repetitions in textures. (This is a very very WIP idea since I’m waiting for the BML exporter and the supported 3ds max version to test this theory, if not possible, then I’ll just export the base model and instance inside 3ds max instead)
Taking on normals and uv unwrapping id going to definitely be a helluva challenge since I’m not used to PBR, but there’s always a first time aye?
PD: idk the max tri count for bml but hopefully it can handle 200k which is what I expect the whole cockpit to be.
For a cockpit 200K is fine. 300-400K is also fine… as long as the cockpit is highly optimized regarding tris count, and also (not less important, even more) draw calls, it’ll be fine.

RE: GPU performance test
@airtex2019 said in GPU performance test:
@phboudreault My quick 2c on the lies of “percent utilization”
CPU: because of multicore, hyperthreading and spin-waiting, it’s hard to read too much into TaskMgr style percent-utilization metrics.
instead, focus on the “Sim” loop time and “Ren” loop timing metrics, from within the game. if either of those approach your FPS (60hz => 16.6ms) then you’re CPU bound.
GPU: as a general rule, the percent-utilization metric for GPU only has meaning when it’s running at its max frequency… if you know the current frequency and max freq, you can roughly compute the correct ratio… but the OS and monitoring tools don’t know it, so they can’t.
For Nvidia cards, people should use nvidia-smi in CMD. That’s about the only tool I know that tell exactly GPU core and VRAM utilization. We are using it at work with DNNs running on CUDA and it’s very useful.

RE: Tu-95 3D Model
Let me ask this way:
How many you think you need?The new code and format of BMS models (Named BML) can handle much much higher poly models than older versions. So let’s say talking about a bomber the size of the TU-95. Feel free to make it high poly. Also, if you are into modeling, soon 4.37 U4 will come with PBR abilities, so we are also supporting PBR mapping (All info will come when the U4 will be released).
Still, before you are progressing too much, let us know here how much you evaluate that you will need.
Cheers!

RE: Falcon radio traffic...or lack thereof
TBH I’m not really up to shape with all the comms changes, but I think there is always an option to listen to the “Guard channel” which should basically be all the chatter there is (And should be exactly as old style comms, I think).

@Kavelenko we really need a Sea Harrier… will check if I can quickly modify to Sea Harrier it after creator’s clearance of course…
Anyway you can use and modify Hayab’s model, I don’t think he is around anymore (unfortunately). But we have the sources and we can (BMS has automatic permission for whatever is stored on our repos) modify/use the needed
Anyway, knowing the guy for many years, I’m sure he will be fine with that. Of course you can ask if you have communication with him, for the sake of manners (Send him please my best regards if you do )
