That tail end looks very familiar. I haven’t read anything about this fighter, but it looks like a modernization of the SU-27 into a stealth fighter. If that’s the case, I kinda envy the Russians in that they will probably be able to produce a viable stealth fighter at a much lower cost than we can. And other nations are going to be lining up to buy them at a much lower cost than we could provide to our allies.
I look at the weapons that we are currently producing and can’t help but think that we could be doing much better by simply updating older designs to include stealth, and updating the avionics and weapon systems. Perhaps that’s easier said than done, but then again a trillion dollars on a slow heavy POS like the F-35 and expecting it to replace both the F-16 and A-10 just doesn’t seem like a smart move to me. Perhaps we could make the argument that it can effectively replace the F-16 (even though it damn sure isn’t a light weight highly maneuverable fighter), but there is no way in hell that it can provide the CAS that the A-10 is capable of.
