@jayb Thank you for the suggestion! Will try next time - but is there a place where I can find this frequency in ITO? The ITO charts only had the VHF frequency of the airstrip unfortunately…
@JollyFE Yes I saved the comms and also visually confirmed that the VHF frequency matches that provides in the briefing. Yet no luck getting the tower to talk to me in VHF.
There are a few funny incidents though where the UHF frequency given in the comms happens to match those of nearby airbases, resulting in ATC asking me to taxi to taxiways that does not exist
@JollyFE When I switch to the tower VHF frequency right now, the options for departure and approach are both greyed out, so I am unable to contact the tower for either departure / approach. So yes it applies to both cases
@Snake122 So the lack of tower control is basically a case of how airstrips operate in general. Interesting! But the airbase does have a tower (in 3D at least) and considering that it has a VHF frequency as well, I’m surprised I wasn’t able to communicate with it.
Recently I have been trying to create TEs where I take off from the Meggido airtrip in Israel. To my surprise, I realised that these aistrips have neither ATIS nor ground control frequencies!
Most surprising of all, the tower frequency is present on VHF instead of UHF. When I switch to the correct VHF, however, I am unable to communicate for either takeoff or landings.
So far I am taking off and landing frequently without clearance, and the ATC is certainly very mad at me! Is there anything I can do to communicate and obtain clearance from these airstrips?
I feel that one thing we’ll have to take note as well is that the switch to the new forum is nearly concurrent with the release of U3.
For me, I didn’t react to the new release because I am still getting used to the new forum format. Although the layout is more mpdern and more features are available, I personally find that the forum arrangements are a bit more messy compared to the past, and did not notice the new release until it was posted on Reddit. It is certainly something that need time to get used to.
The new release was still awesome though, and a big thank you for the BMS team for the awesome product!
Thanks for all the replies!
@oakdesign Thanks for the advice. However, given that BDU-33 does not really explode, does Tactview still record a hit?
@airtex2019 I have checked my config and the “reduce particle system” is not set. I guess it is just that the smoke from the bombs usually last for a minute or so? Whenever I come back for two or more minutes later the smoke tend to disappear.
@danster Nice idea! I’ll try that out as well.
Recently I have been trying out the training missions on the general purpose bombs and had a lot of fun trying out the BDU-30s provided in the mission. However, I always find difficulty completing accurate assessments on the damage I have done.
The smoke patterns are not easily visible when I was on target, and when I circle back to have a closer look, the smoke from the bombs disappear.
I would therefore like to ask how does long the smoke from the BDU-30s last? Other than smoke, what else could we look for from a BDU-30 hit? I’ll hope to better plan my damage assessment trips and avoid the disappointment to circle back without finding anything.
Thanks!
Recently, I have been trying out the BMS training sessions when I noticed about this remark about the use of SPICE bombs:
The BMS SPICE is a true fire and forget weapon, so you could turn tail and egress right after bomb release. If you do that you may seriously increase the distance between you and the target and create bubble issues, which can be a problem with long range standoff weapons.
I’m rather confused about this since I-Hawk have mentioned in previous threads that each bomb do have its own small 1NM by 1NM bubble. Considering that the blast of SPICE bombs (and other handoff weaponry) are pretty small, what are the possible issues with deploying SPICE and similar weapons outside the bubble range?
It would be good to have specific information to decide the tactics on, considering that loitering in the enemy airspace is quite a dangerous affair. Thanks for any response in advance!
Are you at the correct frequency? If your UHF frequency is incorrect then you cannot receive AWACS responses.
They are or were already in…… try the Singapore F-16D+
Would be good if there is a non conformal fuel tank version of the F-16D+ though. Currently there is only one version present with conformal fuel tanks, though Singapore doesn’t always fly with them.
