@Snake122
You and Quasi Stellar were both right! When I first set up the WinWing ICP, I must have assigned the HMCS to the Cont dial.
Thank you!

@Snake122
Thanks! Now at least I have a plan.
I can not turn the hmcs dial. All other dials and knobs turn, no problem, using the mouse and left or right clicking or using the scroll button, but for some reason, the hmcs dial will not move. I think it has to be related to the Viper TQS throttle, because I never had this issue with the warthog, but for the life of me, I just don’t know what exactly is causing this. This one has me stumped.
@dandove said in Best joystick for BMS?:
I have the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X but read it’s not ideal for BMS. I am thinking about buying the Warthog as most reviews consider it the best. Obviously it’s not cheap so I am wondering if there are any downsides to it before I splash the cash. I know there is no Z-rotation. Does it have to be screwed to your desk? Are there other sticks I should consider? Thanks in advance.
I use the warthog stick, mounted on my chair with a monster Tech mount. I just bought the Viper TQS throttle, and thrust masters flying mount works great to secure it on the desk. The Viper TQS is expensive, but I absolutely love it. Before that I used the Warthog throttle for 7 years, and it was awesome, so you can’t go wrong with that either. My entry level hotas was the x52, which is a good hotas to start with to see if you like this hobby.
If you are willing to pay $500, I think the best throttle is the Viper TQS.
The best stick is probably the FSSB lightning, and I hope to get that one day.
It’s an expensive hobby, but it’s worth it.
@HaggisHero I saw that happen in Dumbo! So that is a confirmation that this will release in three weeks.
Does anyone use the Viper TQS in IL2 Battle of Stalingrad?
Update: Problem solved. Using the method in “Solution Found” did not change the calibration in BMS, and it did solve the issue in IL2 Sturmovik BoS.
I can’t set up the Thrustmaster Viper TQS throttle to work in IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad. All other buttons are recognized. Furthermore, it works fine in Falcon BMS.
I saw this solution, “SOLUTION FOUND”
"It’s necessary to change the position (on the throttle axis) where the button is activated.
To do so :
I do not want to do that, because it will change the calibration, and I use this throttle primarily in Falcon BMS. I do not want to have to reset the calibration every time I go back and forth between Falcon BMS and IL2 BOS. Any ideas?
Is there anything else that I can try?
@Tomcattwo I now understand how to use the shift dx key. Thanks!
@skippermike
I was just thinking about assigning the CRS and HDG to the WinWing MFD rotaries. I’m going to do that, thanks!
@Tomcattwo
Thanks for the help Tomcat.
That line of code gets overridden by Jan Jan, I think.
Here it is: "set g_nKnobAccelerationDelta 0 // JanJan override. When set to 0 it will make the By1 and default By5 callbacks”
I’m not sure what is going on there.
Also, how do I set up shift on my Warthog stick?
Update.
I mapped it as a key, not a dial. Move it right, hdg +1, left, -1.
Now I just have to figure how to shift or whatever, so I can use the HDG dial as a CRS dial too. Is there a way to switch it between HDG and CRS by just pushing that button in?
---------- older post-------
Alt Launcher is not recognizing the Viper TQS HDG dial at all when I try to assign the axis. I did add that line of code in, but still no luck. However, I use JanJan, and it seems like it is overriding something.
“set g_nKnobAccelerationDelta 0 // JanJan override. When set to 0 it will make the By1 and default By5 callbacks”
I’m not sure what to do here. Shouldn’t it be possible to use Jan Jan and use the HDG dial? I also would like to use the HDG dial as a course dial too! With the Warthog stick, how do I do that, or set up the shift, or whatever?
It works!
Gear handle lights up when raising and lowering gears. 3 dots light up when the gears are down. TWA lights work.
Are the air break lights supposed to light up when the air break is fully extended? That is the only thing I don’t see lighting up.
Thanks for this great program, and for all of your help and patience!
@Echo Good call, that could be the issue.
I have Windows 11 and McAfee.
@scubapics
The target exe keeps shutting down on me after a couple of seconds. I had it staying up, but now it keeps shutting down, regardless of if target or bms are running nor not, so I can’t even send you a screen shot right now.
Any clue what the heck I am screwing up here?
@scubapics
I just shut down everything and put everything away for now, so no screenshots right now, sorry. I am still not getting this to work, but I am making progress.
I am running both Target and MBS2Target exe as an administrator now.
At first I still would get the MBS2Target exe just shutting down after about 2 or 3 seconds.
I then tried starting that first and then target, and then it was staying up. So that is progress!
For the first time, everything looks correct in target and in the MBS2Target exe, but it was not translating to the lights appearing on the Viper Panel. I tried the Bk 50 and 52 in a dogfight mission, just to test.
In summary, running the exe as an admin, and running it first before target has not gotten me to the correct scrscreens on the exe page, just no lights on the panel in game yet.
@Echo Sounds like a good plan! Thanks.
@Echo
Good idea on admin rights. I will check it.
I’m glad I can put the program on desktop. I will put it on the bottom task bar. I have everything organized so I remember to click all the stuff, like track it, and andes jet seat.
And yes, I was just testing it in the navigation and landing training missions, but it would close within a few seconds, before I could even start BMS, so that might be an admin rights issue.
Thanks Echo.
@scubapics
So I have ensured that I am using the latest Target Software, all is good when I run the TQS LEDS Sync in Target. WHen I run BMS2Target, it comes up, U get Cibbected ti TAREGET and then it shuts down. This happens whether or not BMS is running.
Do I need to put the BMS2Target exe. in a certain folder?
@airtex2019
Thanks airtex. I tried the calibration again, and everything works now. I think I was pressing the com switch too long, instead of just 3 seconds to start eh calibration procedure.
@Ebubekir-Çağrı-Şen
I tried this, but for some reason it is not detecting the full range of motion for the throttle. Even with afterburner it is only about 75%.
Update! It works! I think I was pressing the comm switch too long, instead of just 3 seconds to start the calibration.
For some reason when testing the throttle in alt launcher, it is not going the full length anymore, only about 75% even in full after burner. I also tested it in the thrustmaster control panel, and it is the same thing. Unplugging it and plugging it back in did not make a difference. Anyone have any idea what I did here?
When I first used the Thrustmaster TQS yesterday, it went the full length. It also did in the alt launcher, even after using the axis assign to set the idle detent and afterburner.
So there are two things that might have messed things up. I went through all the keymappings using the great video by aviation plus. Maybe setting the idle cutoff button screwed something up?
I also increased the friction, which better allowed me to control air speed. Did that affect it? If so, is there a way to keep the friction at max but have the throttle reach the full length?
