@luvtofish I wouldn’t know, I use VoiceAttack. I doubt they would be comparable, as FoxVox is nearly as advanced as VoiceAttack, whereas VAC has been deprecated for a long time (years and years). But you’re in luck, because you don’t have to wonder - you can try out FoxVox right now for free!

RE: Should I have to install Microprose Falcon 4 CD to install and run BMS ?
Obviously, Steam will not work without an internet connection - it is a digital distribution platform that allows downloading and installing software purchased on its network. You cannot download a portable installer through Steam, it only will install to a designated “Steam Library” and I doubt this can be a removable storage device.
Likewise, you cannot purchase and download the game from GoG.com without an internet connection. However, you can connect any computer to the internet just to purchase and download the Falcon 4.0 installer from GoG.com and place it on any removable storage device - you can later connect this device to any capable computer to install Falcon 4.0 and no internet connect would be required for this installation.
@repvez I assume this is for something like a LAN party where computers may be provided, yet you must install your own software (without internet access), and if that is the case, for legal reasons it would be required for you to uninstall your copy of Falcon 4.0 from that computer that you don’t own once you are done using it. It’s important that we all respect the copyright of Falcon 4.0 (and of course BMS) to ensure a safe and prosperous future for BMS without any complications or complaints from the copyright holder of Falcon 4.0

@airtex2019 side note was wondering if there is a manual or anything to learn all the features would appreciate look forward to anything positive to mastering this mod.
SOOOOO many manuals
Best wishes and study hard - it’s worth it!!
In addition to local docs in your BMS folder, this info is also available on the BMS Wiki:

RE: this appears when i try to start bms
@NEVES We may have a better time actually helping if you’d include the file that is referred to in this error log, as well. I don’t mean manually copying and pasting the contents into the text body of a rich text editor like this, but attaching the file to the post so it can be downloaded and reviewed. I would want to verify any symbols (even if hidden) in the file, as well as its format and encoding, in addition to line 16 position 1.

RE: this appears when i try to start bms
@NEVES Is that what the
Launcher_Log.txt
says? If not, it would very much help to check that error log for details, posting them here for help. -

RE: NVidea 4 Display Port Problem with Surround 2x3
@mjones Really? I did not know that… (that the combined resolution of all your displays is in fact below the maximum of that card) - Are they all set to 60Hz refresh rate? If not, try that, and then try setting all of them in Surround Mode
-
RE: NVidea 4 Display Port Problem with Surround 2x3
@Atlas FTR, the reply I posted above applies to your case, as well. You can connect more than 3 displays so long as they are under the maximum resolution and refresh rate supported by your card - also 7680x4320 at 60Hz - or again, up to 4 displays each at 1080p no greater than 60Hz each.
-
RE: NVidea 4 Display Port Problem with Surround 2x3
@mjones It is not a matter of number of displays, it is a matter of the maximum combined resolution of all displays (as well as refresh rate). The 1070 you have (like many) has a maximum resolution of 7680x4320 at 60Hz through DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, and Dual-link DVI ports.
This means that you need to calculate those of the displays you have to fit within this limit. Basically, most cards can support up to 4 displays so long as each has no greater resolution than 1920x1080 and each had a refresh rate set to no greater than 60Hz …alternatively, this card could also support 2 displays at 3840x2160 (aka 4K) so long as each had a refresh rate set to no greater than 60Hz.
So, in the end, you can either get a crazy expensive industrial video card that can support this number of displays and hopefully have the same or better gaming performance as a dedicated gaming, given that the Quadro line is not typically optimized for gaming performance but rather scientific and industrial work such as modeling and other stuff, OR you could get displays that CAN be supported in Surround Mode by your current card (i.e. 4x 1080p at 60Hz).

RE: Set up a campaign server. Can it be done?
If anyone has questions about how to run a BMS server, or opinions on server settings, or any of that, this is the place to ask! Happy to help if I can, as well as those above, been running a BMS server for nearly 15 years and would be more than willing to assist anyone in doing the same.

RE: Intel i7 14700K + nvidia 4070ti super 4K?
Capacity of that RAM means nothing without a speed rating. What is the CAS latency and what are the memory timings?
Best RAM is the fastest, lowest latency sticks you can afford in the capacity you require which are also present on the Memory QVL (Qualified Vendors List) of the motherboard you are planning to use them in.
I can’t imagine many workflows that would make use of 96GB of memory - wasn’t stated above yet why so high on RAM - but speed should never be sacrificed for higher capacity memory.

RE: [Feature Request] Axis for All Rotary Knobs
@dawgboy said in [Feature Request] Axis for All Rotary Knobs:
BMS still rocks!!
Given the many new Viper cockpit panels on the market, what are the current and future plans, if any, to make all rotary knobs assignable to an axis versus being only mappable to keybinds, e.g., lighting, etc.?
Thanks in advance.
dbAside from the following axes which are already available for mapping, what other functions specifically have you identified which should be available for axis mapping but are not currently present on these pages?

RE: VAC Website Down_VAC crashes in Win10
VAC is deprecated and no longer being developed (for many years now, iirc - like, almost a decade?).
Hope you can get it to work, but if not, there are other options from VoiceAttack profiles through the awesome (free) FoxVox application - just check the posts in this forum section if you can’t get VAC to work as there are many alternatives.
Best wishes and good luck!

RE: TrackIR issue
@Icer They were asking to see my settings, having shared a picture of my yaw axis but none of the others. Pressing that button on their TrackIR program would only show their own axis settings.
-
RE: TrackIR issue
@white_fang Well, my settings and curves are quite specific to my setup. I have a 24 inch 1080p monitor around 20 inches from my face, the sensor sits at the top margin, midway between center and the left corner, and I wear a hat with my TrackClip Pro sensor mast at full extension from my head (yet still vertically oriented, the three LEDs top to bottom).
The curves (for FalconBMS at least) are such that when my nose is physically pointed to the left (or right/top/bottom) margin of the monitor, the bezel itself, the turn in that direction is maximum (up, down, left, right). All this as well as a slower motion towards the center, more similar to 1:1, and where some profiles I have used a bit of a deadzone as I found my neck getting stiff from having to remain excessively still to avoid minor distracting movements in the sim cockpit.
Here’s a backup of my entire settings folder and all profiles, too - I would strongly advise that you backup your own files somewhere safe before playing around with my own, as again, my excellent experience may be due to the time I spent tailoring these profiles to my physical setup and personal preferences for movement translation.
This “TrackIR 5” folder goes under the NaturalPoint folder in the AppData Roaming folder at the following path:
%APPDATA%\NaturalPoint

RE: X52 pro and mode switch
@m1tp2king said in X52 pro and mode switch:
Hi. So I am new to bms. In the joystick programing software of bms, can I use the mode switch ( 1, 2 or 3) to have loads and loads of possibilities?.
Or can I use the software from saitek? If I choose the saitek software will it work no problem?
What about the pinkie switch (that doubles each button)?
Can the bms software utilise that? The very best way to program X52 Pro is through the integrated Alternative Launcher or through manual DirectX keybinds file configuration. You can use the pinky switch in this way to double each button like you asked, but the Saitek software should be used sparingly and only as needed.
In my X52 Pro Falconeer profile setup, I only use the Saitek profile to change the mouse ministick to the arrow keys to move the radar cursor in-game using the ‘binds’ method, and to get the slider on the throttle to behave as a variable speed brake control (where resting in the center halts movement fore or aft).
Check it out if you want some ideas on what the X52 Pro can be configured to (with some work), or if you wanna just use the profile straight away, it provides options for just the X52 Pro, or with use alongside Thrustmaster MFD’s, and/or a Razer Tartarus gaming keypad as an ICP, and with or without TrackIR support.
Best wishes and good luck, whatever you decide!

RE: TrackIR issue
@jcook said in TrackIR issue:
Thanks for the ideas, but lighting is not an issue in this case. Dimly lit room and no lights behind me. And as i said it works fine, great even 95% of the time. And then it gets restrictive allowing only partial tracking of my head movements.
I’ll try the reset option next time it happens msybd thst eill redolve it.
In that case, I’d suggest that you have the TrackIR open with the Camera view visible, and move your head around while keeping eyes on what the Camera sees… I have had this issue before where the space I moved my head moved one of the TrackClip Pro LED’s out of view of the camera, so it only had 2 to focus on. Other times, turning my head to the left, the brim of my hat would obscure the upper LED from being visible to the camera. I keep the sensor on the top left margin of my monitor (not centered) for this reason, and the mast of my TrackClip Pro extended so all three LED’s are as far from my head as possible.
These three green pips should be visible no matter where you move your head in your virtual cockpit, and if one is blocked, things can go wonky until it can be seen again:
Not sure if you are using the TrackClip Pro or not, but regardless, checking that the camera can see what it tracks through your entire range of motion that you’d use in BMS is likely going to reveal your issue (if it’s not light sources behind or reflections from glasses being picked up by the camera). If you wear glasses, open a regular Windows Notepad (or anything with a white background) fullscreen and see if moving your head around causes errant movements which may indicate reflections from glasses in bright scenes causing tracking issues.

RE: Will RAM upgrade improve FPS?
@rubbra said in Will RAM upgrade improve FPS?:
@SemlerPDX no, it’s a myth. The observable performance difference is negligible. Sure if your system supported all the ddr specs, you could go from, say ddr2 to ddr 4 and see a big difference but within the same spec, bumping up a few MHz is utterly pointless; a few fps at best.
(but I completely agree about this particular laptop, though an upgrade to 16gb would extend its useful life for BMS for a bit)
Try it: underclock your system memory to base DDR4 speeds, run some benchmarks (which include 3D as well as without), and then bump it back to whatever rated speed you run it at, and run those same benchmarks again. You will see the difference (whatever that may be).
It’s not a primary component to improve for FPS gain, but also who the heck anywhere would notice a change of 2-5 or even 5-10 FPS gained? I understand what you mean regardless, it is indeed a slight difference and ostensibly negligible. I agree that it may be so slight that it is only noticeable in benchmark results and not in an IRL situation such as playing an old (heavily updated) combat flight simulator.
Point is, however, it’s not a myth for every person and every configuration of components - but equally it is not a place to expect particularly marked observable performance gain as the ability to notice such slight differences is gonna come down to the individual. It’s also going to be more noticeable for games which are memory intensive, obviously, because if the speed of the memory is a limiting factor, the change will be more noticeable (or “observable”).
I totally get what you are saying: ya don’t spend money for faster RAM in hopes of increasing FPS … but that doesn’t apply to all scenarios across the board, and there are situations that would suggest that applying such a blanket statement that noticeable gaming performance gain by way of increased memory speed is a myth would be a gross oversimplification. There is too much nuance for me to agree that it is a myth, too many case scenarios where it would not be, if you get what I mean.
