Thanks Stingray! Beautiful work and I hope you have a great 2018!

RE: WIP: F-14 B/D
Yeah prolly one of those weird internet anomalies, thought I saw that bump as well…

That pic of the kit model inspired me to fix the rear end where the stabs connect to the fuselage so I fixed that part. It actually goes straight down from the shoulder and only below where the stab sits it angles down toward the engine pod. Finalizing geometry and optimizing right now. About time to deal with textures and materials. Been looking into the 3Ds side of things so the transition goes smoothly. Maybe I can get this out before the DCS boys roll out their 1 million poly model :D.
In the render you can see the areas that need work. Lots of materials are messed up at the moment. I’m giving all objects their correct names and merging the objects and materials cuz I duplicated tons of them. The names and materials can also be imported into 3Ds. I will use some modifiers to simulate the load of the airplane on the tires. Also started to remodel the nozzles so they can open and close as intended.
Don’t worry about the DCS design- it’ll be very fun and pretty but the long range intercept capability needs a lot of work in the engine. BMS will be great fun to train managing a large area of airspace with a flight of 4 Tomcats. I loved flying one in Allied Force and basically controlling 150 sqnm area without needing to refuel and keeping the are clear of everything. Just a great feeling of total superiority with great response speed- range, and weapons employment.

RE: Rockets rock!!
Anyone working on APKWS for Falcon? Rockets would indeed rock at that point.

RE: WIP: F-14 B/D
THANK YOU FOR BEING SUCH A RIVET COUNTER!!! We need those big fat intakes to scare the crap out of the enemy when they see us on their six! Makes them feel like our engines will eat them if our weapons don’t first!(true IRL statement from an F-16 guy after getting beat by an F-14 Veteran-flight hours made the difference in this scenario)

RE: Anyone - F/A-18E/F Advanced Bug - 3D modeling - Conformal Tanks
Will Falcon allow the pylon angles to be correct or do the weapons only mount parallel to the centerline?

RE: Trying to run the U-2 Update
I have both the Torrent and the .exe DL with the Torrent I get an video error and the .exe I get a CDT I did about 4 reinstalls each but no luck.
I hate to ask, but is your file pointed to the game installation or the setup folder?

RE: Post your BMS 4.33 Screenshots here!
That’s what often shocks me : there is too much glowing when firing flares or when shells explode around you.
It’s normal that it puts a lot of light on the model, but there’s a glow all around the shape of the jet that shouldn’t be there.
Or :
I get the point but you are referencing dusk pictures with midnight screenshot and they don’t correlate.

RE: WIP: F-14 B/D
Ok guys, now that it’s time to finalize the shape and optimize the mesh as much as possible I unzipped something I’ve had for a while - 1969 Grumman F-14 blueprints :).

Will post some updates, comments and renders over the weekend before going into my summer projects (no modeling :)).
Definition of WORK! Great job Stingray!

RE: WIP: F-14 B/D
Amazing detail and work! Can’t believe this is gonna be a reality!

RE: WIP: F-14 B/D
The F-110 nozzles are not mirror images but if there is a Falcon game engine restriction I understand. Right now it looks like the nozzles are mirrored off each other, they should be the same.

RE: WIP: F-14 B/D
That’s right. As a slight extension I might add that part of the issue is the lack of implementation in terms of the flaps. The flap is not one single part as can be seen here:
https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8632/28319477060_5eaf1aa5be_z.jpg
Quote from NASA:
“Leading-edge slats and trailing-edge flaps are used to improve maneuverability at high subsonic speeds as well as to increase wing maximum lift coefficient at low speeds. The auxiliary flap shown in figure 11.32 is used only at low speeds to increase maximum lift. In normal operation, the maneuvering flaps, wing-sweep angle, and vane position are automatically controlled by a computer in accordance with a stored program that utilizes inputs from several measured flight parameters such as angle of attack, static and total pressures, and temperature.”
Without going into too much detail the main points are there is an automatic flap and slat retraction from takeoff and landing positions for airspeed greater than 225kts.
That being said the auxiliary flap only works when the wing is fully extended but manouver flaps (the main flap on the outside of the wings) and slats are deployed automatically by CADC/DFCS as a function of Mach number and AOA up until around Mach .85. Meaning even when the wing is not fully extended these control surfaces work and are deployed automatically by the system.
Specifically, if wing is aft of 50deg sweep the slat and flap (main and aux) are locked and remain fully retracted. The aux flap is locked and fully retraced aft of 22deg sweep. Between 21deg and 50deg the slats and main flap are deployed by system. In this regime the slat deploys up to 7deg and the main flap up to 10deg.

On early F-14s the glove vane is incorporated into this logic but for the purpose of this discussion can be ignored as the vanes were dropped later on. Apparently the only people ever figuring out how to effectively use the glove vanes are the IRIAF pilots and tweakers.
FYI plenty of F-14A US squadrons used the glove vanes auto and manually up through the mid 80s. I think its an early Snort airshow vid on youtube that shows them being deployed (manually) during the max performance turn. They’re seen and used in the Final Countdown movie and Top Gun. Though they didn’t offer any real design benefit except at higher mach, they did reduce pressure on the tailplanes, possibly increasing pitch response when used manually. My guess is 90% of the time you witness them, its for show only.

Just doing a monthly Preventetive maintenance on the turkey just making sure no rust shows up……

RE: F18C skin request…VF143 Pukin Dogs
Is anyone able or thinking of doing so?
I dont think VF143 ever flew the C Hornet, AFAIK they transitioned from F14s to F18Es.
Still would love to see the skin for the F18C and I have no such talent to make such.
Cheers, my brothers.

SACRILIGE!!! APOSTATE!!! Never add a turkey squadron to a legacy F-18 or vice versa. They do this to the static birds on Oceana to recognize rewarded squadrons, but it looks stupid and isn’t historic in any way……rant off. I’d just like to see an new Block II Super Hornet in the game, then I’m good with it.
