892 NAS disbanded 15 Dec 1978.
RAF Tristar KC1 entered service 24 Mar 1986

But as you say. Nice picture.
P.S. I remember the Ark Royal hangar for 892 when I was at RAF Leuchars in 1979!

RE: Just a question about birds and BMS
One of my past lives was as a ‘Bird Control Unit’ operator.
On the course I was fascinated by the 1/2 Mass (of the budgie) x Velocity squared formula giving the Kinetic force for damage! Imagine a goose down your intake…
I saw the results of many bird strikes but the worst has to be a deer strike! Simulate that mess!
As for birds not liking to live near airfields. Nah. They love it! All the open grass areas are fantastic feeding for them, unless it’s allowed to grow longer. (Then you get another problem of fires in Summer…)
Roosting in the Hangars/Buildings and local area woods are another reason.
Trained Falcons for Bird Control are pretty rare in my experience.
Oh and we played loud music as well as various species alarm calls to disperse them. Lapwings were a particular pain. They’d return in minutes! And yes we used flare type pistols firing specialised shotgun cartridges that were like flashbangs.
I loved that job… More to it than you would think!

RE: Landing on an airfield without radio at night
IRL
Without going too deep into it. Fly past the tower at 500’ on last known runway in use heading to ‘get their attention’ (If even manned)When downwind expect a green flare/lamp from the Tower to ack presence.
On finals look for green flare/lamp from Tower or Runway Controller for landing clearance.
Getting a red means no…Total electrics fail at night is even more fun.
If I missed anything apologies, it’s been a while…

RE: ATC MENU FILTERING
@frederf said in ATC MENU FILTERING:
ATC is necessarily simplified because the controller is not a thinking human
I’m offended!

RE: RTTClient32.exe flagged as virus
Just ran a full virus check using Microsoft Defender. Showed C:\Falcon BMS 4.35\Tools\RTTRemote\RTTClient32_FakeBMS.exe as Trojan:Win32/Zpevdo.B
Bit concerned about the word Fake!!!
