I finally found the issue. I was pretty sure whatever the problem was had to do with recent drivers or a windows update. So in Windows update I looked for he last installed item before I posted here about the issue. What I’m found was a program called Nahimic Media which was part of some Asus/Realtek drivers I grabbed from their site.
Turns out, this software is basically a virus and replicates itself in other programs and ends up causing major issues including the issue I was having in BMS, namely “cannot create dsound”.
I tried disabling it in services but no joy. I ended up having to reformat the the computer and start from scratch. As of today I’m flying Falcon again. From my understanding Nahimic is included in a lot of official drivers so beware.
Thanks for all the help!

@Wicked All is working fine. The problem was not using the right comms menu item with the selected frequency.

Comms issue in flight.
I was flying a campaign mission earlier, just a simple HAVCAP and was unable to check in at steerpoint on the check in frequency and unable to contact AWACS tactical. I was using the correct frequencies and verified AWACS was up. The weird thing is when I attempted to check in or get a picture, I did not hear the radio call from my pilot to AWACS and did not receive a reply. However, when I called my wingman to fence, I heard my pilot give the call and got a response.
I wrote down the frequencies from the brief and entered them manually. Another oddity was after I manually input a frequency I could no longer use the presets. I could rocker through them all the way to 20 and see the frequencies but upon pressing enter, it retained the last manually entered frequency.
I’m just getting back into flying BMS so it’s possible I may need to update my comms procedures.
Comments and suggestions welcome. -
RE: Comms issue in flight.
@SoBad Thanks for the tip. I went through all the steps posted above and as I said, I was able to contact my Wingman with no issues. I was also able to contact tower for approach and landing. It was the AWACS frequencies that seemed to not work AND prevent me from making a call.
Even if I were to manually input an incorrect frequency, I would expect to hear my avatar voice make the radio call. For whatever reason it worked for all but 363.050 “Check In” and 253.675 Tactical. I’ll try again later this evening.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
I have uninstalled Falcon again. The last time I uninstalled it I deleted the executable and downloaded a new one. Upon Reinstalling and opening the launcher I noticed the debug box was hi-lighted. I don’t remember that option being enabled by default which means there is a file somewhere on my computer loading previous settings on my new installation. Does anyone know where that file may be so I can delete it?

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 I unplugged the reverb from my computer, (both DP and USB C) and tried to fire up Falcon. Again, no joy. I’m at a loss as to why it worked for months and then one day out of the blue it stopped. The only thing I can figure as the cause is maybe a windows update.

@airtex2019 Your help is greatly appreciated. I’ll try disconnecting my HMD tomorrow and see if it gets me in.

@airtex2019 Playing with VB Meeter now but it’s not working either. This sucks lol, oh well.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 I just tried to associate Falcon with the headset I want to use. I opened the launcher and went to the volume mixer which is where you would make this change. Falcon doesn’t show up as an app. Even though it is open on my desktop. Windows Sounds, Mozilla, steamtours and Windows Mixed Reality show as apps that I can change but Falcon isn’t there.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@Tumbler31 So I just followed the directions and found a realtec driver needed to be updated along with several others. I did a Windows update which updated several items with the correct drivers. As soon as all was done, I rebooted then booted up Falcon and hit launch… SPLAT lol.
What sucks is everything was working beautifully about 4-5 days ago and then the crashes began out of the blue. Also, I’ve now uninstalled and reinstalled the sim at least four times, on two different mobo and cpu combos with the same issues.
I just wanna fly… is that too much to ask? I’ll even dance for it!

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@Tumbler31 I’ve tried everything I can think of. I’ve changed sound devices from my USB headphones, to on-board sound, to USB 2.0 sound using the Reverb headphones. Crashes every time with the same error.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 This is what it says in xlog.txt at the end.
00:00:00.000] 26272 Error in sound setup, cannot create DSound. Errorcode: -2005401480
So that’s obviously it. That said, I can hear through my headphones for every other app. Not sure what exactly I need to do to fix it.

RE: BMS Crashing upon launch using both launchers
@airtex2019 I typically mean the same as you when I say 3D, meaning clicking fly. However, what I am actually referring to is launching the sim so sorry about that.
The sim crashes every time I launch. VR on or VR off, standard launcher/alternate launcher doesn’t matter, it crashes regardless. I cannot get to the menu screen where I can change graphics, sound, controllers and realism.
Here is the most recent crash text.
