In 4.36 I’ve noted that AI flights in 2D world (or in-game but outside the bubble) very often failed to strike their objectives. Now with 4.37 I’ve done some testing.
Setup:
- Simple TE with no opposition
- Skill level set to max for all
- OCA strike package consisting of four 4-ship F-16’s all with JDAM and LGB’s (mix of AP and HE)
- Target is an undefended airbase (no red air and ground units)
Then run the scenario in 2D world and observe.
Result:
- Only one item of the objective list gets destroyed (in this case a single RWY section).
I’ve repeated this test numerous times and changed various parameters but the outcome remains the same:
It doesn’t matter if it’s a TE or campaign, it doesn’t matter what the target is, it doesn’t matter what aircraft type is in the package, it doesn’t matter what weapons they have, it doesn’t matter if you assign targets to every aircraft, it doesn’t matter how big the strike package is, it doesn’t matter if you have excellent scores in campaign flights, it doens’t matter if time compression is used and it doesn’t matter if you observe in 2D or when you are in 3D world and the strike package is outside the bubble.
In previous versions of BMS (4.35 and before) strike packages where much more effective in a scenario as described above.
To me it seems like this is a bug and if so I hope it will be solved soon. If not please let me know what I can do myself to change this.
