Hey guys, I’m sitting here staring at a forced update from Microsoft literally about to have a nervous breakdown due to the arrogance of Microsoft. In the past 2 years, I’ve installed/reinstalled Windows a half dozen times, switched to Win 7, then was forced back to Win 10 because of a CPU upgrade. I’ve been happily running version 1511 of Win 10 that I had on a thumbdrive. I gave up on the Win10 creators updates and BS “improvements” that constantly break something, if not my Falcon install, something else breaks with my controllers or drivers. I do not do any kind of financial work, banking, etc, on my gaming/flight sim rig. I DO NOT CARE about the feature updates. I run Norton Firewall. I rarely even go online with my gaming rig as I usually play single player games. If someone was actually able to surreptitiously take over my gaming rig and use it for some nefarious purpose or mining I would be very impressed to say the least. I notice it when I drop a few frames in frame rate.
Which leads me to my actual question. Does this unchecking the box fix make everything “normal” again? i.e. performance AND resolution wise? Microsoft now claims than any version of Win 10 before 1703 is at “end of life”. I’ve had issues before with Nvidia driver updates and having to tweek my settings in Nvidia Inspector after loss of frame rates. I love Falcon but sometimes it seems like I spend more time with troubleshooting than flying.
Microsoft is making it really difficult for developers like BMS with Windows “as a service”. I’ve been able to fend off updates with the usual tricks like metered connection, etc. but now they are forcing updates on everybody even Win10 Pro with deferred updates. The first thing I did was check this forum when I saw the pop up from Microsoft on my desktop and surprise surprise the 1803 update breaks Falcon. Mind you I have no issues with necessary security updates but we all know that this is not what this is about. I may be hyperbolic but Microsoft is trying to copy Apple’s model with MacOS, Itunes, App store etc. and if we are not careful as consumers we won’t be able to game, watch a movie, or buy and run software on homebuilt computers without going through the Windows store or whatever it’s called. They want a piece of all that money Apple and Steam are making. I’m still hoping some brilliant developer comes up with a way to emulate Win10 in Linux to provide a stable platform for gaming and then we can all tell Microsoft to go jump off a bridge. Sorry about the rant but the thread seemed appropriate.
Again, this fixes resolution and frame rate issues? Have you guys noticed any other performance issues, settings changes?
