Newbie: What kind of performance can I expact from this setup
-
Hi all,
Just installed BMS with all updates.
With the default settings I get about 15-20 fps in th TE “Basic Handling”
Browsing the interwebs I get tons of different tip on how to improve fps but I have no idea what I’m doing. Don’t even know if I got a decent graphics card / pc or what kind of specs Falcon BMS needs.
I have flown lots of Falcon4 and FalconAF in the past and I really wanna get back into Falcon again.Any help is appreciated.
Specs
- Dell Inspiron 3847
- Intel Core i5-4460 @ 3,20 GHz, 3201 MHz, 4 cores
- 8 gb Ram
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 705
- 353.62 drivers
- Windows 10 Home
-
Turn off all extra GFX option in config editor. Shadows, heat blur, etc.
What is your ingame settings? Quality sampling is very important, do not set higher than 1-2.

Thanks for the quick response.
Later today I will try this and post back the results.

Wow! Big improvement
Disabled shaders, set Quality Level to 1 -> FPS between 60 and 70
Looks and feels very smooth. I guess for now this will be ok.Thanks !

Its the Graphics card that is the weak link there. Its only just a step above the onboard GPUs.

Well that makes sense, I didn’t spend that much on the PC. Use it primarily for office work and making music.
Also noticed that in the BMS tutorials I watched the 3d cockpit looks a lot more 3d then mine. The central console (icp or ded, don’t remember the name) pops out of the screen when zooming in and the HUD shifts when panning around. I guess this is a TrackIR thing? But I really always enjoyed flying Falcon because of the immersion and realism. I love all the buttons pressing and switches flipping
It’s the only sim that could hold my attention mainly because I felt I was at war. The comms with wingmen, AWACS, tower. I love it.And if it looks nice, well that’s a bonus

What monitor resolution do you have?
Also how much ram does your vga have?
Your pc is better than mine, strange.U might gain some performance by looking at my hotlist and maybe re enable shaders and enjoy it in all it’s glory.

Here’s what I got from the NVIDIA Configuration Screen (in Dutch, but I guess you can figure it out)

Oohh … a lot of scary regedit overclocking cpu bending stuff. I’m gaming on my work pc, so I don’t wanna take any risk … (musician, I work at home )

System memory says zero?
lolseems like a 1gb. Does this system have an Intel onboard gfx card? is this nvidia card shown in Falcon?
-
I do see an extra vga adapter but I searched the bios and couldn’t find any settings for that.
The NVIDIA card is shown in Falcon
