Consistent CTD when no external monitor attached
-
Hi guys,
First of all I have a somewhat exotic setup, but maybe you could do something with this crashlog (it seems fairly clear). If I don’t hook up my external monitor Falcon BMS consistently crashes whenever I go into the Setup (2D).
I have a (relatively powerful) laptop with 2 video cards:
Intel HD Graphics 4600
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860MAnd the laptop can run in 4k resolution, although I don’t use that.
The stacktrace looks interesting:
0033:0000000004906AA3 Falcon BMS.exe, BuildVideoDriverList()+467 byte(s),
0033:0000000004912093 Falcon BMS.exe, STPSetupControls()+2275 byte(s),
0033:00000000049111B6 Falcon BMS.exe, LoadSetupWindows()+262 byte(s),
0033:0000000004941FC0 Falcon BMS.exe, OpenSetupCB()+32 byte(s),
0033:000000000485414D Falcon BMS.exe, C_Button::Process()+205 byte(s),
0033:00000000048352C2 Falcon BMS.exe, C_Handler::EventHandler()+3970 byte(s),
0033:00000000044777B9 Falcon BMS.exe, FalconMessageHandler()+633 byte(s),Now, I already tried a bunch of things:
- I can select which card to use for BMS, I tried both, doesn’t make a difference for the crash.
- I tried to disable the Intel card in the BIOS completely and just work with the GeForce, no difference
- I tried setting different screen resolutions. The laptop supports 4k, but it doesn’t make a difference if I set it to 1920x1080 for example
When I hook up my external monitor as the main display, BMS works fine. The monitor supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1080, though.
So I don’t know exactly why the code crashes, but it feels related to the 4k and/or the dual card setup.

I have also a BMS not responding after hitting commit to go to 3D in my ASUS rog 551 JW 16Go I7 GTX 960M Windows 10
I’ve not investigated yet I’ve no external screen LCD is full HD -
Just to follow up on this one. It is a well known issue that occurs when the monitor refresh rate is below 60 and can be fixed with an entry “set g_bAllowAllRefreshRates 1” in the falcon bms config file.
