Low FPS/Crashing with AMD Card
-
Hello all!
Before I jump into it, let me say that I’m new to all this so bear with me. I’ll try to get all the relevant info!
I recently dug out my old F4 disk for some good nostalgia and naturally, desiring better graphics, I was led to BMS. Now, I play on my laptop (which I know is a mistake, but budgets are budgets) which doesn’t have a disk drive, so I made an ISO copy of the disk and installed from that. Maybe this is the root of my problems?
Anyway, both the original F4 and the BMS one are unplayable due to FPS–I would estimate I’m getting about 8 frames/second. More recently, I’ve been getting flashes of black which last several seconds. I know the game is continuing because when the screen returns, I’m in a different position (and typically facing straight down lol). I have all the game’s graphics settings at their minimum, so I should be doing alright–I don’t have a great rig by any means, but it’ll play even the most recent games.
I think I’ve managed to figure out that the game is running from the Intel integrated graphics rather than my GPU, but I don’t know how to change it–the game only recognizes the Intel in the menu and unlike the Nvidia control panel, I don’t AMD gives a way to force a program to use its card. Any suggestions?
Many thanks!
BTW, card is a Radeon R9 M275X if that helps.

I had the same problem. Select switchable graphics on Bios and install Open GL drivers, afterwards, update your Crimson AMD graphics drivers. It worked for me with max settings and high FPS

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread. I’ve the same issue as OP - BMS doesn’t recognize my R7 360 as an option when I try Setup/Graphics - the only option is the Intel HD internal. I’ve updated the AMD drivers and the intel drivers. And under AMD’s Catalyst Control I’ve attempted to set the BMS launch file to default to high performance (i.e. It should use the R7). But no change - BMS Setup doesn’t have my card as an option under video cards.
I then discovered this thread, and after a bit of digging it appears my BIOS is set to switchable, and the update to the AMD drivers should have updated the OpenGL drivers. Still no fix. Just wondering if there is other guidance out there?
Thanks. -
Hang-in there Basel, someone with laptop experience will be with you shortly…
