Warthog works for only a few hours then ….
-
Hi Guys,
I have just got my Thrustmaster Warthog 2 days ago from PC Case Gear, Australia.
Then yesterday I install TARGET, and suddenly I notice Z and Rz axis are not detected.
The other axis: slider and mini mouse (X&Y) and the buttons are detected. Now, if I look at Control Panel > game controller > warthog throttle:
Z and Rz axis are not detected.Yesterday, before I install TARGET, both Z and Rz axis were detected.
Do I get a faulty product or did I do something wrong here?
I have emailed TM, 2 days has passed, so far there is no reply.Anyone with warthog has this kind of problems before?
Please help. -
While I don’t use a warthog (Cougar owner), I have a similar problem that every once in a while, my microstick axes disappear. What usually helps is to fire up the CCP (cougar control panel), then use “retrieve values from device” followed by “download to device” to get all axes working again.
I have also noted this usually happens when my t500RS (thrustmaster wheel) is also connected to the gaming PC.
Sorry I cannot provide more hints atm, but maybe you could check if this also occurs if you disconnect all other gaming input devices.
Do you have your warthog set to auto-calibrate or are you loading some fixed calibration values?
Cheers, Uwe

Try this…
1. close program
2. unplug device
3. start program
4. plug in dev -

Hm sounds like you might be encountering the same issue as I do every now and then. What solves the problem for me is to uninstall all USB devices and install them in the order as needed. The device order is specified by the TARGET script you are using.
Hope that helps.
-
Have you installed on XP, no where on my system (Win7) is the term “Rz” used.
I assume you are talking about DX_Z_AXIS (THRRIGHT) and DX_ZROT_AXIS (THRLEFT)
And you have Unplugged, RePlugged
The only odd behaviour I have seen is when accessing my bios (Z77X-D3H) I first must unplug all Thrustmaster devices.
What happens if you uninstall Target?
-
thanks guys for all the replies.
I have uninstalled target, then reinstall, then uninstall again,
I have tried different system, win xp and win7/64,
I have tried uninstalled all other USB devices,
I have tried reinstalled the TM driver, but the problem remains.
@hoover
is CCP (cougar control panel) the same function as target?@EggsNFries
there is no problem with my TARGET, it recognize both throttle and stick.@Shadow
yes, DX_Z_AXIS (THRRIGHT) and DX_ZROT_AXIS (THRLEFT), that’s the 2 axis which won’t work.I have emailed TM, it has been 3 days,
however so far there is no reply,
do you know how long it takes them to reply? -
I don’t know Target, but if you can view the button / axis functions with it I guess it’s similar.
I recently had to exchange a broken desk clamp on my T500RS wheel, I got a reply within 24 hours (that was with their german support though).

Hi tirta
Sounds like a Dead stick. I’d get that thing back to Case Gear, I’m shore that’s where I got mine.
Don’t bother with TM, Get a “Return Authorisation number” from Case Gear. And write down the serial number somewhere too.
I know you don’t want too lose your baby but you aint the father, its black.
-
Sorry tirta,
I was a little quick in responding and actually missed that only two specific axes are affected in your case. It doesn’t seem USB related. I never encountered anything similar and actually never had to check how the axes are displayed in Window’s control panel - both stick and throttle worked out of the bag. As Shadow said, it sounds like a dead stick
-
yes, it seems I have to return it.
however, there is one big problem:
I am in Indonesia and the store in Australia,
the shipping cost must be very very expensive.but if I do not return it, what I get is a $500 junk courtesy of TM.
do you Guys have some experience trying to fix it yourself?

If the stick is faulty, I would ask PC case gear to pay for the shipping, when you get the RA number off them.
Its not -YOUR- fault that the stick you purchased was faulty.
If its a broken board, then you have zero chance to fix it, and you will void the warranty even if you do have a chance to fix it.
The best time to open up $500 of junk is when you can no longer replace it for FREE.
-
thanks Blu3wolf for the advice.
you do have a valid point there. However, from the first time I ask PC Case Gear,
they refuse to send the product out of Australia.
so I asked my nephew who is studying there to order one for me.
He is the one who bring it home to me.Anyway, finally after a week, TM replied my email,
they say it might be the pot,
but so far there is no definitive answer,
they still investigate it. -
well, your options are rely on TM and hope they will offer support for it, or get your nephew to return the stick to PC Case Gear.
Best of luck with it.
-
thanks.
if the store is in my town, I will return it right away,
no more problem.however, since it is not, I have to wait for my nephew to get back to Melbourne next February,
if I want to return it. (he is home for summer vacation right now).so I hope TM can find the problem and tell me how to fix it.
-
Sorry to hear your stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I find it hard to believe two pots failed at the same time. Possibly a mechanical axis fail but more likely to be
analogue to digital processing fail.Only other thing I can think of is a firmware update/rewrite.
-
yes Shadow you are correct,
that is what I think too.2 axis means 2 pots,
or more precisely, is it hall sensor?
do you guys know?
what exactly do TM use for z and rz axis? the usual potentiometer or hall sensor?why both of them can be broken together at the same time?
that what I asked TM, but no reply so far.the axis mechanic is still OK, I still can move both left and right throttle like before.
analog to digital processing?
which one is it?and I have already updated the firmware, but the problem remains.
-
If its a pot or a hall device it changes the impedance (resistance) of a circuit, this is the “analogue” input.
The output of the Throttle is digital via its USB interface. Hence the internal analogue to digital processing in the Throttle body.I hope you have some better luck….

After waiting for a week for their replies,
then another week exchanging emails,
finally TM shows its true face. This is their reply:
Kindly be informed that since you are located in Indonesia and the invoice is issue by a shop in Australia, the
manufacture warranty is not applied.
Also the potentiometer for the this device are not available as a spare part.
I have emailed them since Dec 3, 2014
and I told them since the beginning that I ordered it from PC Case Gear Australia.
And on my reply dated Dec 10, 2014
I have sent them the invoice and my Indonesian address.and they only replied:
Dec 9, 2014
Please provide us with a copy of the invoice for the device and a picture with the sticker placed at end of the USB cable
, so that we may know if we may assist you under warranty.
Dec 10, 2014
In this situation, the potentiometers for the axes appear to be defective.
Please provide us with a copy of the invoice for the device and a picture with the sticker placed at end of the USB cable
, so that we may know if we may assist you under warranty.
then they also asked:
Dec 11, 2014
Thank you very much for providing us with these details.
Please provide us with a video recording with the device while testing it, under game control panel.
Attached to this email you will find a document with the instructions on how to send us the video, once is done.
then:
Dec 12, 2014
Thank you for providing me with these details.
In this situation , we will send you new potentiometers for the X and Z axes of the device, so tyhat you may replace
them and fix this issue.
In order for us to do this please provide us with the following details:
-
Your full name and postal address;
-
A phone number where we may contact you.
then after I replied, today I get this:
Kindly be informed that since you are located in Indonesia and the invoice is issue by a shop in Australia, the
manufacture warranty is not applied.
Also the potentiometer for the this device are not available as a spare part.
In this situation, you will need to contact the store and ask for a replacement.
What a joke,
they should say from the beginning that they do not have the spare parts to spareand WTF is “manufacture warranty is not applied”?
if I am not under warranty they also should say so from the beginning. That is it.
I never buy anything with Thrustmaster brand anymore.TM should know that in the 1990s I bought CH Flightstick Pro in USA,
while I was studying there, then I brought it home to Indonesia.
After 3-4 years, the pots spiked, then I contacted CH Products,
then they send me the pots right away,
no questions asked and no charge.
That is what I called “good warranty and service”.Not like them,
after they asked for almost evertything:
the invoice, pictures of this and that, and please make video etcand in the end, they do not want to be held responsible,
hiding behind legal technicalities.what a waste of time.

Call Thrustmaster and explain your case then. If you get the right people, and you can convince them you are taking responsibility for any further damage, they may mail you the replacement parts. I know its a different company from when they sent me replacement springs for my 2nd hand mark 1 stick in the 90s, but they do try. You won’t be able to get anywhere unless you either 1) have access to schematics or 2) open up the throttle and check for yourself. My guess is you have broken contacts from a weak solder job, or a disconnection. Good luck.
