Good FPS on my old system or not?
-
Hi Guys,
With the following specs (old CPU and low level GPU ) I get 60 fps in an average TE ( 3 flight strike on defended target) with medium settings. I’m happy with this. Is this good performance from my setup - compared with what I’ve read it is. Seems to me getting decent FPS is a bit of a gamble?
For example I had a much better GPU that went kaput but I didn’t get significantly better FPS with the bargain basement replacement. I know BMS is reliant more on CPU but still….Operating System

BMS isn’t particularly taxing on hardware compared to more modern PC games (like maybe Red Dead Redemption 2), especially at 1080p. Settings in game and in nVidia Control Panel also matter, of course, but if you’re driving a display of 1920x1080 with 60Hz refresh, then you are already achieving the maximum performance of your display hardware anyway. What matters now is limiting the dips and drops below 60FPS, as any frames delivered over 60 per second will get dropped and not displayed. You’ll run into these in scenes with a large number of models, effects, or particles. For testing lows, you might try the ILS Landing training mission (with rainy weather) and adjust from there.
Any V-Sync settings are gonna try to lock your FPS to 60 to match the refresh rate of your monitor, so to get the most accurate real-time testing of FPS, it can help to turn this off (nVidia CP and/or in-game, if set). Pressing CTRL+C and then immediately after press (and release) the “F” key to display FPS in BMS.
Try turning your BMS settings to higher or lower to find where you can maintain the most consistent FPS in high activity scenes. Since you can achieve FPS on par with the monitor max refresh, you now configure to make sure it doesn’t dip too low (like below 30FPS, etc.)
