Need installation help
-
Thank you for everyone’s help. I have Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 up and running! However (sorry to be a pain here) I seem to be having trouble installing the U2 and U3 files I go through the steps and end up where it says: Completed! Running the BMS program setup now and the only option is to close and if I leave it open it just stays there. I’ll post the pics in showing the steps and the game install location in local disk C. What do these updates do anyway? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Launch the Sim and look in the bottom right corner of the screen, it will tell you what version is installed…it’ll say 4.33.1,4.33.2 or 4.33.3. And just in case you want to reinstall the sim from scratch…the best way i’ve found to get all the updates installed is to put the U2 & U3 updates inside the Falcon BMS Set-Up folder…this way when you run the set up exe, The sim will automatically see the updates…And then all you have to do is hit Next

Sorry Tass but that is not correct. It must be directed to the Drive or Folder “Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup” was extracted to original.
If you used the default location then you just continue with that location for the patches, there is no do anything but click “Yes”, “Understood” & “Install”
-
It is correct…I’ve done it…on more than a few occasions…Don’t put the updates in the same folder as the set up.exe as your picture shows, That’s my fault for not explaining it correctly in my earlier post. Put them in the Falcon_BMS_4.33_U1_Setup Root folder so it looks like this…
Falcon_BMS_4.33_U1_Setup
Falcon_BMS_4.33_U2_Incremental
Falcon_BMS_4.33_U3_Incrementalnow run set-up…it will see the updates.

There is a common misunderstanding how BMS installer and patches work. It is usual to think of installing a game with patches like this: I install the game and then I apply the patches to the installed game. BMS is different. With BMS the patch does not update the game but it updates the installer instead. Then the updated installer can patch the game or install the higher version directly if it is not already installed. And so a typical BMS installation might go like this:
1. Download BMS and 100 patches.
2. Extract BMS installer 4.X into folder.
3. Extract 1, 2, 3, …100 patches into installer folder.
4. Run BMS installer and install version 4.X Update 100.
5. Wait 2-3 weeks for Update 101.
6. Download Update 101.
7. Extract Update 101 files into BMS installer folder.
8. Run BMS installer to update BMS installation to 4.X Update 101.What Falcon_BMS_4.33_U2_Incremental.exe is is simply a zip container for 4.33_Update_2_Part_1.bsf file (and maybe 1 or 2 others) which does into \Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup\data\ folder so next time BMS Installer is run it has more data to work with either to install a later version the first time or patch an existing install. If you had 4.33U1 installed and wanted to patch to U2 you would extract the 4.33_Update_2_Part_1.bsf file (and I guess local.ver) from the Falcon_BMS_4.33_U2_Incremental.exe package into the BMS Installer folder (e.g. C:…\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup\data\4.33_Update_2_Part_1.bsf. After the .bsf file is in place the next time the BMS Installer is run it will detect this new .bsf file and recognize that BMS installation can be upgraded with this new data.
So it is easy to check if your BMS Installer is on the latest version. You just have to check if files:
4.33_Update_1_Base_Part_1.bsf
4.33_Update_1_Base_Part_2.bsf
4.33_Update_1_Base_Part_3.bsf
4.33_Update_1_Base_Part_4.bsf
4.33_Update_2_Part_1.bsf
4.33_Update_3_Part_1.bsf
are present in C:…\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup\data\If they are, run BMS installer again. It will show new “Product Updates” in the Downloaded side of the screen but not in Currently installed. Click checkboxes to enable and press next to allow BMS Installer to patch game. Next time BMS is run it should say FALCON BMS 4.33.3 (x64) BUILD 16068 in corner.

No, the Incrementals need to be “run” one at a time. Making shore they are extracting (installing) to the location of BMS Setup folder.
Once that is done then run setup. Please take note of the difference between “extracting” , “updating” & “installing”
PS: Fred goes into more detail,
Added (installing) where I had typed “extracting”

No…they do not have to be installed one at a time…here’s me reinstalling BMS right now on video…As you will plainly see…i never run any of the incremental updates before installing Falcon, I just have them in the Root Falcon BMS Setup folder. They will be seen and verified and installed.

This is correct, as long as they are in the originally created setup folder with the base Setup you’re good to go. The Setup will install everything, i.e., all updates contained within.

THANK YOU Cloud…Been trying to explain this to this guy…But he doesn’t get it

He doesn’t have them in the setup folder. There in a folder above. And I have never seen this behavior before.
As per https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?28573-Falcon-BMS-4-33-U2-Incremental-Installer
Step-by-step details:
(1) The pre-requirement for installing the update is to have the original BMS 4.33 U1 Setup folder available. That is the one with the blue colored Setup.exe. Take a note on the folder name where this exe is. This folder is NOT your actual game folder that you use to start BMS itself. It’s the folder wherever you downloaded and extracted the original BMS 4.33 U1 base installer.
(2) Note: You need the original BMS 4.33 U1 Setup folder, as U2 is incremental only (like all BMS updates).
(3) Next, RUN (do not unzip) the U2 installer. It will ask you where the BMS setup folder is. Select the folder that you have identified in the 1st step.
(4) After the U2 installer has finished, it will call the actual Setup.exe that you have identified in the 1st step. Now you can either perform a fresh new installation, or update your existing U1 installation by choosing ‘Manage product updates’. U2 will now be shown in addition to the 4.33 U1 base installation.
(5) Once the U2 installer has been run once, the original Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup folder will contain the additional U2 data permanently (unless you delete the Setup folder, of course).
And Tass my Name is Shadow not “this guy” but you can refer to me as Sir.
PS: Trying to do the one upmanship by advising methods of install that are contrary to the official BMS method makes you no friend to the “new” guys having problems with their installs. You create confusion.
Ram22 I don’t know what your problem with me is, lately you seem to be on my case, but get over it. -
Shadow, I said that they went into the folder above when i corrected myself from an earlier post. This is what i said
Don’t put the updates in the same folder as the set up.exe as your picture shows, That’s my fault for not explaining it correctly in my earlier post. Put them in the Falcon_BMS_4.33_U1_Setup Root folder so it looks like this….
Falcon_BMS_4.33_U1_Setup
Falcon_BMS_4.33_U2_Incremental
Falcon_BMS_4.33_U3_Incrementalnow run set-up…it will see the updates.
This is exactly what the video showed…Not trying to confuse you bro…trying to help you out and make it easier thats all!!
-
Tass I’m not confused.
I have never seen that functionality spoken off before. And I never have “Falcon_BMS_4.33_U1_Setup/Falcon BMS 4.33 u1 Setup/” extracted, just x:/Falcon BMS 4.33 u1 Setup/
I usually test anything I,m not 100% on before I post but with this new Win7 on Razen install I’m having troubles getting F4.0 installed so I couldn’t check.
But as far as New people are concerned I still think the BMS “documented” should always be the primary method we point them to.

Well look, neither way is the wrong way…they both accomplish the same objective of getting the Sim installed and getting you in the air!!! :drink:

Actually I just tried your method and had no success. Setup found no updates.
Even tried running setup again after Base was installed.
I noticed your video is no longer available.

Have you actually tried it ?

Shadow, This is gonna sound like a stupid question, But i’ve been known to ask stupid questions before soooo, Are you trying to install 4.33…or 4.33_U1? Because there’s no reason that i can think of why the installer wouldn’t recognize, verify & install the updates other then you may be trying to install the older version of BMS which is 4.33. I mean the video i put up is how i install BMS whenever i have to reinstall, And it works every time. As a matter of fact…the video i posted WAS me reinstalling. I uninstalled BMS so i could show you the method.
-
Your right it was a stupid question , but one I would usually ask.
Are you using Win 10, and might this be the reason. Though I doubt it.
It does not work on this install of Win7+SP1
-
Well i only asked because i did it…lmao Yes, im on Win 10 64 bit…And it could very well be the reason, but im not the one to ask about what works on different versions of Windows, Hopefully someone else reads this who has more knowledge about that…Sorry Shadow
-
No need to be sorry on my account.
But I still prefer to point new people to the “Official” install & patch method.
